When you leave BT
How long do BT normally take to refund any monies due to you when you leave them? I was paying by quarterly direct debit,my last bill was at the end of January. I then got rid of BT and switched to another phone provider at the beginning of March. Am I right in remembering they (BT) bill you for line rental in advance, and therefore they owe me two months money back for line rental, call minder, etc. How long should it take to get this money back?

I trust you have contacted your bank to cancel the direct debit?
You should have received a final bill from BT telling you the amount you are owed, with a cheque to follow later. What BT and other companies never bother to tell their customers is when to cancel direct debits. If you cancel a DD too early, a threatening letter will be sent out telling you to pay up or else. BT's customer service is atrocious, so good luck getting your money back. |

Haven't had a final bill, all I got was the letter saying 'we're sorry you no longer wish to use BT',etc, and saying I should receive the final bill in due course. Having said that I'm pretty sure it can't be much as most,if not all,of the calls I made between the last bill and the changeover date would have been covered by my call allowance.

Hi PhilH36
You should have received a final bill - sorry you haven't. I can look into this to see if we owe you money or if you still have an outstanding amount to pay. I've sent a PM to you to get the extra details I need. Cheers Linda BT Support |

As Linda says you should have received it by now. Mine and my parents as well took about two to three weeks when both properties switched to PO.

Firstly,Linda, thank you for your offer of help. I phoned BT and asked where my bill was, apparently my account still hasn't been closed because I had a payment card, which I used to use to make payments towards the bill before I went direct debit. The guy I spoke to said a payment card on the account causes problems when it comes to closing it down. He said he'll get the account closed and I should get the final bill within the next two weeks.
