Hiding treats!
Alfie Blue Eyes
03-04-2009
Hi,

My pup has taken to hiding her treats. We put on our shoes and theres a bone in them, yesterday I went in my handbag for something and found a half eaten sausage God knows how long it had been in there. We are also finding bits in some really odd places - leave a drawer open and he will make a deposit!

We are finding it really amusing but is it normal?

Alfie, this really made me laugh because I've had this with mine too. I recall the embaressment of my local minister calling one afternoon and adjusting the cushion on the couch only to find a disgusting gnarled bone behing it.. which George promptly flew after like a bat out of hell...lol
Another time I cooked giblets up for a Tibetan Spaniel we had many years ago and the little beggar hid a chunk beneath my pillow
Needless to say the bedroom door was kept closed after that!

Mine throws his treats around, especially the ones he's just not too sure about like raw veggies. I've found them in various places around the house too, including a bit of carrot stuck in the ceiling light!

He does it to the unfortunate insects he catches too, he just grabs them, shakes his head and sends them flying! I've had a big black beetle launched onto my lap by him before

Alfie has just "air buried" his bone in a corner of the living room after walking around with it whining for about half an hour. We have to pretend we can't see it!

Aren't they cheeky monkeys! One of my hides her chews either down the back of a settee of between the bed & the headboard. She gives it away though because she sits guarding them afterwards so we always know where to look.

My dog is funny for things like this,

I gave him an whole carrot yesterday, he looked at it at first as if it was a monster or something, then took it in the garden and had a little nibble and then started throwing it right up into the air and growling at it and then buried it in one of the flower pots when he thought I was not looking

One of his other favourite things to do is, when he isn;t fussed on eating a treat at that time, he takes it to the sofa or my bed and digs like crazy a 'pretend' hole but it isn't pretend to him, he then burys the treat and puts 'pretend' soil over the treat with his nose, bless very sweet to see! He'll only do this if he thinks you are not watching him!

But if anyone goes to sit there later on, he shoots over there like flash gordon!!!!

Lol, the 'pretend' soil routine makes me laugh like mad as it's so cute. Dogs are such charachters aren't they?

By the way, Alfie, I have two Shih Tzu's and a patterdale terrier
