Ok, this is quite a long winded one, hopefully someone can help!

Ive just bought a Dell Studio Slim, its really cool, BUT.

It has an ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics card, with a DVI output and HDMI output, currently i am running the DVI output to the 1080 Dell 22" panel, and the HDMI cable to a samsung 40" LCD 720p.

The picture on the dell is great, smooth and perfect, however the picture on the Samsung 40" is really poor, not sharp, text looks fuzzy, not blurred, but fuzzy, if that makes sense, and the colour isnt sharp at all.

I am running the monitor as my primary display and the samsung as a extra panel, so u can drag programs/windows over to it.

Is there some sort of driver i need to install to get it working properly? or am i just working the GFX card too hard?

All help really appreciated, i hear you guys are the bomb at working this kind of stuff out.

the strange thing is when i run my laptop directly to the samsung via a VGA to VGA cable, it looks perfect, but through a HDMI cable and from a much better gfx card, it looks crap

Cheers

Rick

I have a Samsung 32" TV connect to my PC.

The picture was really poor until I went into Source List/Edit Name menu and changed my HDMI2 input to PC. Picture is now perfect.

May work on your set up.

Have you changed the resolution of the second monitor (i.e. tv)? None native resolutions look ugly.

what do you mean non native?

i have it setup at 1280x720.

am really puzzled by this, not sure what else i can try, im begining to think its a mechanical fault, like dodgy cable / hdmi port / gfx card.

Please help!

Your TV panel is very unlikely to have a resolution of 1280 x 720. Far more likely it's 1366 x 768.

Find out what the correct (native) resolution of the panel is (or tell us the exact model), and set your graphics card to output that, if it has it as an option.

And make sure the HDMI input on the TV is set to the computer setting (as per DazerUK's post).

How do i do this?

the only way i can get anything to come through the PC source is if i plug it into the VGA input of the television.

I cant find an option (other than just to put the letters PC as the description) to do this!

@rikitydj: We really do need to know what physical resolution your display is to be of any further help. Please look in the manual and post what it says, or post the make and model number.

If it's 1366x768 then you have no choice but to use it via the VGA socket from a PC set to 1366x768 to get a crisp image as it won't (or is incredibly unlikely to) support that resolution via HDMI. Feeding it any other resolution leads to an enforced rescale and that's what leads to the blurriness.

I've seen the same problem many times with TVs with 1366x768 panels, and VGA is the only cure.
