What dance what this music be good for?
Hi folks, how is everyone?
I often choreograph routines in my head when listening to favourite bits of music (how sad, eh?) This track is very famous in drum'n'bass/sampling circles because it contains (@ 1:27 what is now referred to as the "Amen" break. It is possibly the grand-daddy of all drum samples (it's been sampled and messed about with on thousands of tracks), and most of you will probably recognise it even though you may think d'n'b etc. is awful. It's not a bad tune (it's nearly 40 years old); The Winstons - Amen, Brother (YouTube), but I can't decide whether it could be used for a Jive or a Cha cha cha... Your thoughts, please? (once you've stopped dancing on the table). |

Cha cha was my gut instinct too; glad you agree.
Is there a standard spelling for the Cha Cha, cha cha, cha cha cha, Cha cHa ChA etc? I'm a recent convert to Northern Soul, btw. I'd heard of it, but never checked it out. Checking it out = a dozen or so new CDs in my collection/on my credit card statement during 2008. I'm only 34, so the scene which the original Northern Soulers were a part of was never an option for me (not that I lived anywhere near the more famous clubs/venues). I wish the SCD lot would be allowed to use more funky tracks with sharper/more musical arrangements. A couple of my many favourites (used to have a big YouTube playlist, but tracks kept being taken down) April Stevens - Wanting You (YouTube) Edwin Starr - 25 Miles (YouTube) |

Heh
Btw, northernsoul54, a newly discovered copy of "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)" by Frank Wilson (Soul 35019) is currently being auctioned - LINK. Prior to its discovery, only two other copies of this pressing were known to exist. The auction ends on the 29th of April... the current bid is almost £18000...

that's a lot of money!funny though - i do like that music but that's not why I chose my name - I'm only 30 myself! - but you are not the first to ask me about my musical tastes! I am just from the north and I meant 'soul' as in 'person' I guess

Heh - I thought the 54 referred to your age and that you were a veteran from The Twisted Wheel (famous NS venue) or something...
