Hi
Last Thursday I recorded My Family from 8.30- 9.00, Would You Save a Stranger from 9.00 and The Mentalist from 9.00.

When I tried to watch Would you Save-- I got the message 'Recording failed. Conflict with higher priority recording.' This has happened a few times and I can't see any reason for a conflict.

I never had this trouble with my two VCR's.

Anybody got any ideas?

I would have guessed at the 'My Family' schedule over ran but without knowing if you used "Accurate Record" or "Padding" can't offer a definitive response

Do you still have the My Family recording? if so go to the media table and scroll to the recording but not pressing ok press the ibutton and see what the Billed date and time value is.

You often get these messages in the circumstances described by GC, above but find that almost the entire programme is available. The Humax is very conservatove about what it considers an 'non-failed' recording.

You need to check the recorded duration - often you just miss adverts or trailers.

I went to the i button for My Family and the time given is 8.31 - 9.00, so it evidently didn't overrun.

Padding, I believe, is adding extra time to the beginning or the end of a programme. I don't like doing this because then I miss the beginning of the next programme. In any case, doesn't this cause it to miss the electronic signal for the start of the next programme?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is "Accurate Record"?

Yes, I always check if the programme has been recorded or not when I get this message and sometimes the programme is there and sometimes not. It is difficult to know what to do to be able to rely all the programmes being recorded.

Accurate Record is a feature of Freesat+( and Freeview plus) that works in a similar manner to series recording but for one off programmes, if you choose a single programme rather than the series for a series linked programme you invoke schedule tracking for that one event only

Accurate recording is the same as the Auto setting on the foxsat where it uses the signal from the broadcaster to trigger the record start and stop times as it appears you are using, and yes padding does cause the box to ignore start/stop signals.
So if the My Family recording ended on time maybe the other two started too early. Or possibly the My Family recording went on as late as 9:00 and 50 seconds and although the reported time says 9:00 it did infact over run long enough for there not to be enough recording capability ie requiring three tuners instead of two

Every so often, I scan through the recording schedule looking for cases where a recording is due to start as another ends (and they are on different channels). The HDR's clash detector won't spot this as there is no actual clash in the EPG. It's only when the first programme overruns or the second starts early (even by a few seconds) that the problem occurs. Consequently, you aren't offered an alternative instance when setting up the recording. If I find such a case, I manually look for an alternative instance. That's quite easy if the second programme has a +1 variant.

Another technique I use when setting up recordings is to have a quick scan of the EPG to see if a peak-time programme is repeated in the morning, afternoon or late at night. Selecting such an instance, particularly for series recordings, makes it less likely that you will get a clash when you later set up a peak-time recording.

Record an alternative airing of My Family.. BBC Scotland have an episode on the friday also regional variations are showing on the sunday at 17:10 and again BBC Scotland showing Mon 13th at 18:30..

If you set the Channel 4 and then Five recordings when you attempt to make the BBC reservation it should offer you an alternative.. However I see this weeks episode is on at 20:00 and not 20:30 so there shouldn't be a problem this week

Yes indeed this is also a good point and going back to my suggestion about the order in which schedules are made channels with the +1 hour variant can be selected last to enable the alternative option to be made available as well as regional alternative offered by the BBC

A word of caution about Channel 4 +1. On several occasions, recently I've noticed that the EPG for Channel 4 and Channel 4 +1 is identical, i.e. the +1 is not slipped by an hour. The transmitted programmes are, it is the EPG that is an hour out.

Thanks for all your replies. I will try putting your tips into practice.

I thought perhaps there was a way to set up the Humax to deal with these conflicts and I was missing it!
