This device has a 7" screen, and takes SD cards and USB flash drives as inputs (and a Freeview tuner)

Unfortunately:

1) It has no analogue or other video inputs, and

2) The USB/SD card player only plays MP4's and AVI's (and in the fine print AFTER PURCHASE, it says only Divx4 and Divx5)

Does anyone have any experience with this device?

Can it be upgraded?

If I want a small 5" - 9" LCD screen which takes analogue video input, what should I get?

Thanks!

I think I'm going to return this crappy product.

90% of the time I try, the TV doesn't recognize the USB memory stick.

When it does, I often play a movie from the USB, go to the menu, and it AGAIN claims there's no USB memory inserted.

This device is a piece of crap.

Not sure about analog inputs but Xoro make a few nice little portable DVD/Freeview/DivX players.

Have a look on:

They sell the August ones but they also do a few of the Xoro models. Their prices are pretty fair. You may do a bit better if you do some serious trawling, but not much I don't think.

Thanks, but none of these do H.264 inside MP4 or AVI files.

What I'm going to do is instead just get a 16" Alba LCD TV from Argos (£100) and use my iPod 5.5G which has video out if you buy a cable (or make one).

That way, I can use H.264 videos easily.

Well, to be fair, I wasn't going to require H.264

But to ONLY do DivX (and not to mention that) is simple too little, too late.

If the device supported, say, 5 formats, then it would be credible.

(And the fact that the USB mounting is a travesty is absurd)

Oh, one more point of failure: There is no easy-button on the remote control to switch between 16:9 and 4:3 view. You have to go into a menu, then a sub-menu, then another setting, then back out and back into the Movie menu, item menu, and then Play movie. YUCK!

With a little better software, this could be a really nice product. But they fell short by the wrong 5%.
