I dropped my Sat cables under the floor at the weekend which meant moving my kit off the shelves and reconnecting all the cables.

Some difficulty getting the amp/TV to recognise the HDR again - powered cycled everything a few times and eventually got it working but don't know exactly *what* did the job. It seems obvious that HDMI is meant to 'just work' - on the amp i can select component or composite but not HDMI. I think it's the same on the TV. It's a shame it doesn't.

However, last night when i tried to watch something it 'lost' the HDMI link 3 times during a 30 minute programme and i had to switch away and back to the HDR input on my amp to get it working again. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm using the same cable in the same input as before but something about the HDR seems really flaky on this.

Odd. So a dropped HDMI 3 times during 30 minutes of a recording of Stewart Lee but 3 hours of recordings played last night (some while i was out of the room as a test) and no problems. Nothing changed - devices only taken to standby rather than completely powered down.

I know that you state your are using the same HDMI cables, but if they are two long you may be experiencing digital dropout.

How long are your cables? IMO cheaper cables longer than about 5m may! start to cause problems.

HDMI 3 has the potential to support higher bit rates thereby causing digital drop outs on shorter length cables. However i dont't think that domestic A/V equipment uses the higher bit rates yet, but I could be wrong.

Are your cables "certified" for HDMI 3?

I have short (50cm) cables connecting my BluRay and HDR to my Sony amp and then a 7.5m cable connecting the amp to the screen. I made sure that all the cables were 1.3 compliant when i bought them.

The long cable is one of these http://************/cgn2z2 :Ex-Pro Gold Professional HDMI to HDMI Cable Lead 24K Gold, 1080p - HDMI 1.3 (125283-49) Compliant - 7.5m supplied via Amazon

The advice I'd always been given was to avoid super-cheap cables but not to spend lots of money on digital interconnects and this seems fine - it's a chunky cable (though i realise that could be the sleeve rather than the internals)

My set-up is fine with 1080p Blu-ray which should be much more demanding that the 1080i output of the HDR. I'm wondering how the HDMI switching on the Amp actually works - is the relevant length from the Amp to the Screen or from the total including the HDR-Amp link?
