Cruciferous vegetables are very filling: brocolli and cauliflower, cabbage etc...

I like raw cauliflower dipped in low fat plain greek yogurt, or shredded red and white cabbage dressed with olive oil and lemon, with flat leaf parsley sprinkled on - both snacks are super filling but healthy.

Also strong tasting things give you a sense of being satiated more quickly - so pickles, olives, capers, spices etc.. are good.
Cinnamon is also a good spice for keeping your blood sugar balanced - stir a bit into some yoghurt or in porridge instead of sugar.

Helen, seriously, if she's that bloody judgemental tell her to stuff it and don't go.

Chewing gum will have the opposite effect. While chewing and producing saliva, your stomach is expecting something dropping in. And as no food is coming you will get hunger pangs.

That's what I was going to say, I often chew gum if feeling a bit bloaty after a meal that hasn't gone down too well.

Celery dipped in yoghurt, or chop up a pepper and snack on that.

the best thing to do is something that doesn't involve food at all, go for a walk or get busy doing a clear out of your wardrobe, or, if desperate, clean your teeth, I know it sounds wierd, but it works.

Porridge made with semi-skimmed milk.

If your friend is that critical tell her to get knotted.

I would eat a good meal of whatever you fancy, and don't go and visit this "friend".

That does indeed make sense but I have started chewing gum recently (got a batch cheap lol) and I've noticed it helps me not eat.
Maybe we're just filling up on saliva. Mmmm tasty.

How long have you been "dieting"? It takes the body a while to adjust to less food than its used to.

The best way to avoid cravings is to regulate your blood sugar level by eating little and often.

You also need to eat the 'correct' foods - swap your white varities of bread, rice and pasta for brown / wholemeal - these make you feel full up for longer.

Also cut out convenience food, fast food, food high in saturated fat and refined sugar - all these types of food will fill you up quickly but raise your blood sugar levels making you feel hungry again quite shortly after eating.

It sounds lame and really boring but this is the premise of a GI diet that I used to follow (and will start again come next week!!) an average day would be something along the lines of:

Breakkie: Wholemeal toast and peanutbutter.
Midmorning snack: fruit
Lunch: soup and wholemeal roll
Midafternoon snack: yoghurt
Dinner: spag bol with wholemeal spaghetti, sitr-fried veg on the side
Evening snack: fruit or low call hot choc or houmous with raw veg.

Basically you eat a normal meal in the evening but make sure you mainly salad or veg, then mainly protein with a smaller portion of wholemeal carbs.

Worked a treat - I lost almost 3 stone, skin and hair looked fab, I felt so healthy and full of energy. I also stayed at my "good weight" for 2 years whilst I followed this pattern. I'd still go out to eat once a week, and still enjoy the odd drink - just in moderation!!

Sadly I have put a bit of weight back on so need to get back to it and lose half a stone for the summer!!

Losing weight - if you are serious - will not happen overnight! You should aim to loose betwen 1-2lbs per week (and it will be less the closer you are to being your ideal weight!) gradual progress is the best way to make sure you don't put it all back on!!

Also drinking 2L of water and exercising for 30 minutes 3/4 times a week helps!!

As for things you can eat right now - make a big bowl of salad / have some fruit / a yoghurt / wholemeal pitta and houmous - something along those lines!!

And your friends sounds like a complete cow - I'd not bother dieting for her - it has to be for you!!

Avocado is very healthy and very filling. It is relatiely high in fat for a fruit, but these are good fats, and fill you up so you feel satisfied.

Lately I have been making a smoothie for my breakfast which is from one of Jason Vales (juicemaster) books and it tastes great and is really filling. (I know it sounds horrible from the ingredients but it's nice - you do need a juicer and a blender though...

1/2 Avocado
Handful of Spinach
1/2 Lime
2 apples
1 stick celery
Inch slice of cucumber
Ice

Juice everything in the juicer except the avocado. Then blend the avocado and juice with the ice until smooth and creamy.

Aside from this, eating filling whole grains, and healthy soups is a great way to lose weight healthily. It will take longer than a few days though..

it sounds to me like you've started a diet too 'extremely', apologies if i'm wrong but it sounds like all you ate from the minute you woke up until nearly 6 oclock was a muller rice ,an orange and some cereal. make sure you have a decent meal for either your lunch or breakfast or else you'll just end up making yourself so hungry you'll just grab something quick to eat, which more often that not will not be good for you
