I've tried, alas, they just come out as wedges, or roast potatoes in a chip shape (or wedge shape). Maybe if you use a non-stick oven tray and dry roast them with just a bit of salt, or put some oil in an atomiser spray and lightly spray them with that.

I par boil mine for 5 mins, then put on a baking tray sprayed with oil (or frylight) then spray the chips again before putting in the oven at about 200 until golden and crispy

Every time I try they always stick to the tray, even though it's a non-stick one and I use plenty of oil. Where am I going wrong ?

Thickly cut some potatoes (I'd suggest 1 and a half per person eating)
Parboil is salted water for 5-10 minutes, until they've softened but not to the point of mash. Drain and shake until chips look like they've been bashed around a bit. Preheat fat of your choice in oven tin (a little olive oil is a nice healthy option, but I'm a goose fat or lard man my self) Once fat is sizzling add chips to tin. Include some garlic cloves to flavour if you are so inclined. Bake on low-to-medium heat for about 20 mins, turning them half way through. Bake on high heat for another 10/15 mins, again, turning half way through. The more complex version is to put the chips in the fridge after parboiling until they've completely cooled down, and do the same after the first 20 mins or so. But I find it's a pointless faff and only the most distinguished chip eaters can tell the difference!! |

I do it slightly different way...
Turn the oven on and place an empty tray in it. Cut potatoes as you like them (I usually leave the skins on as I am lazy!). Par boil until they are a little soft. Drain the potatoes in saucepan, drizzle over olive oil and sea salt. Take out the now hot tray from the oven and place (throw ) the potatoes in it...it should sizzle slightly.Return to the oven and turn once. Very slap dash but works for me everytime

The way me and my fella make them is pre-heat the oven to about 190/200 deg., cut into thick chip shapes, par-boil for 5 mins, drain and put in a mixing bowl. Put some oil on your hands and lightly coat each individual chip, putting more oil on fingers as required. Sprinkle lightly with salt. Place on lightly-oiled non-stick baking tray, cook for 15 mins, turn, cook for another 15 mins. Yum

I do like the idea, but I would want to cook more in it than just chips. |

You have to soak potatoes in water before attempting to make oven chips or wedges. This is to remove the starch, if you don't they will stick badly.
You'll never get evenly cooked crips oven chips, deep frying is the only way for that. |

Looks good, but it is expensive and also some of them have gone on fire as they had a problem with the cooling fan. The problem may be solved now mind you.
I do like the idea, but I would want to cook more in it than just chips. From what I have read you can cook a lot more in than just chips such as chicken, sausages, fish, its suppose to fry anything you would put in a fryer. I would like one myself but hubby says he has read some bad things about it catching fire. I think they may have sorted that now or surely they wouldn't still be on sale. I will wait to see if the price comes down or another company copy it & bring it out cheaper such as Tesco. |

Here's a home-made oven chips recipe I keep meaning to try out.
It has good ratings & some helpful comments. I really must make an effort to try making them myself! |

Before I got my Actifry I used to make oven chips by simply coating them in oil and putting them on a silicone baking sheet or baking paper. I don't understand why anyone thinks they'd be chip shaped roast potatoes.

I do mine Delia-style ( and no, they don't taste like roasts either!)
Preheat the oven to 230c For two people, take two big baking potatoes and cut lengthways into whatever size and shape chips you want. Using a clean tea towel, dry the starch off each chip then put into a big bowl with a dessertspoon of oil and season. Spread out evenly on a baking tray, put in oven and leave for half an hour. They taste like heaven
