Thanks for that - I had resigned myself to watching Gardeners' World in SD.

If you had tried to set a SD reservation the hdr should offer you the later HD version as an alternative.

I first noticed that the schedule had remained at the last date and not advanced on the saturday morning (april4) so setting the sd version wouldn't offer me an hd alternative because there wasn't one within the 8 days on the epg. the next Hd airing isn't until tuesday 14th thats 10 days between.

I'm so used to the 14 day EPG that I'd hate to only have a week at any one time. Thats why I love my little old Inverto

This is one of my biggest beef's with BBC HD - the continual need to monitor when regular programmes are being shown in HD.

I know that, because the BBC only have the one HD channel, it's not always possible to simulcast the SD and HD versions, but some recent scheduling beggars belief...

a) Yellowstone HD version shown days after the SD version, necessitating the need to record the SD version 'just in case' and to get the additional 10 minute biog.

b) This week's Gardeners' World HD being shown next Tuesday. Why wasn't the Wallace & Gromitt programme scheduled half an hour earlier?

c) The last edition of Antiques Roadshow appears not to be in HD at all (I know it's a bit of a compilation) and has been blitzed by the golf.

d) Last year, the run of Heroes started in HD and then the next HD episode was shown a week after the SD version.

There are probably other cases more numerous to mention. I just wish there was more consistency.

Like last Tuesday Later Live was on BBC2 at 10pm, presumably a little more 'live' than when it was shown on BBC HD at 11:20pm!
My problem is that I'm continually having to search through an entire week of HD listings to find out if there is an equivalent HD offering that week of a particular program.
The BBC could at least cross index their standard SD listings so that at a glance you could see when the HD version was on.

It's probably mainly as you say: there is only one HD channel and four SD-content channels able to provide HD content at one time or another (quart into a pint pot) and they are also juggling the various priorities of other viewers (such as many might reasonably expect the Master Golf final day to be in HD, so that automatically scuppers AR on this occasion). And there would be viewers who might expect Friday's SD showing of Wallace & Gromit to have a simultaneous HD airing, so GW suffers. Please one group, hack of another.

It was mentioned some time last year on the BBC HD Blog that there are sometimes occasional rights issues, meaning that they can only broadcast one version at a time (hence the HD showing has to be at some other time).

I thought the Humax Freesat PVR did that for you - have I misunderstood?

Yes progs or series can be a bit all over the shop.. but for a relatively new channel in a new enviroment/market ie UK it's doing quite well..

I still feel it needs that 'killer' series or programe that gets the awareness up. F1 or getting some of the more popular BBC series to HD may help.. even if that means Eastenders or the like (argh!)

14 day EPG that should be standard on all Sat services to be honest

No You are quite right. It hadn't occurred to me to try to record the wrong channel to get a link to the correct channel!
I've just noticed the little HD symbol popping up on a program in BBC1 or 2 when there is an BBC HD equivalent. I'd been looking at the information bit of the program description, which doesn't mention it.
I'm used to being offered a choice of SD/HD for ITV, but I hadn't tried it for BBC. I assume that if, as stated above, the programs are too far apart, the system falls down.

That would certainly be useful, after all the Radio Times website provides a 14 day listing. It would have prevented the Antiques Roadshow timer being left at the top of the schedule last week.
