audio and visual cut-out on HDMI and component

Hi Guys
I have an older (2005) JVC plasma (Z50DX4) coupled to a TEAC set top box (HDB840: 2008)
I also recently recabled from the antenna terminal to the TV via the STB with Quad Shield RG6.
The signal level is very high and the picture quality is very good across all channels but I have two problems.

Via HDMI the sound blips or cuts out for a second or so every 15 to 20 seconds while the picture freezes momentarily but much less frequently than the sound loss.
The problem is much less evident via the component connection but still occurs.

Is this a common problem? If it's not the signal, is it the box not talking properly to the TV or is it my older- but I hope not obsolete - TV?

What can I try please? Grateful for suggestions

Possibly the TV set may require a software update?, as your set predates Sky HD it probably never implemented HDMI or HDCP correctly, many sets from that period have similar problems.

If JVC have a customer helpline try ringing them, they should know if your set has such a problem, and if there's an update for it.

Hi NIgel
JVC tech support told me that there have been no software upgrades for that model. I was told to retune which I did with no difference.
I talked to another JVC technician who said the problem is not with the plasma but in the set top box where 2-channel or stereo must be selected in the AUDIO system setting menu.
My TEAC box does not have this option - so I must look for another one which does. If you do know of such a box, please let me know.
Thanks
