Sony RDR-HXD 870,,Mpeg 4
Hi,
Have searched threads & cannot find anything on this. I have Sony DVD HDD RDR-HXD 870. DTT in ROI is transmitting in MPEG-4 on SD The 870 can pick up transmissions-but sound only! Does anyone know is upgrading this bit of kit a software issue which can be fixed with a software update or is it a hardware issue which will require new kit. Have searched the Sony website & Googled for hours but cannot get a solution...Thanks. |

It can't do MPEG4, presumably it isn't an ROI spec box? - it would require different hardware in order to do MPEG4.

DTT in ROI is still only in testing phase.DVB-T boxes are not yet officially on the market. However I was in a local tv/sat suppliers last week & they had a DVB-T box for receiving MPEG 4...The cost was Euro 270(£250)approx.
How much does a basic Freeview box cost? |

How much does a basic Freeview box cost? MPEG4 boxes are likely to be considerably more expensive. |

Hi Kelsca
not sure if it will fit your requirements, but the MVision HD 200 is a combi sat/dtt receiver which will decode both HD satellite signals and MPEG2/4 dtt transmissions so will give you the best of all worlds if you have a dish and an aerial. You can hook up a USB hard drive for recording capability and it has a now & next EPG for satellite and 7 day EPG for DTT (transmitter dependent). I've just paid €230 for one.

I've not party to what the ROI's plans are but it would make more sense to go with DVB-T2 if they are going to launch a full service.

It's true that there are no officially approved receivers yet, but required specs have been published (http://www.rtenl.ie/downloads/RTE-FT...eiver-Spec.pdf). The receiver I mentioned earlier fits the spec and is confirmed to be working with Irish DTT.

Thanks for all the replies and comments. The Mvision looks good but I already have FSFS X2 and Foxsat.
I will need 3 terrestrial boxes so I hope they are priced reasonably! As for Irish DTT using MPEG 4 as opposed to MPEG 2, maybe the availability of cheap UK boxes would not suit the vested interests!! |
