They do in the US, or atleast they used to in New York. I remember seeing a program about it years ago.

As above, it must be down to cost. They have their drive-thrus which works.
Our Pizza Hut doesn't even deliver.

They deliver in Dubai too. In fact all restaurants do - from a kebab shop to the finest restaurant in the city. The difference there is that the cost of labour and petrol are very low compared to here.

I'd say it's the cost.

Your average full meal from McDonald's or Burger King (i.e a "burger", chips and drink - all large) costs below the lower end of a delivery pizza.

They'd either have to charge for the delivery or raise the base cost of the products, both of which wouldn't be accepted by the general public (for some reason people find it hard to accept that getting someone to bring food to your house at all hours of the day costs money!).

McDonalds did delivery in the Crystal Palace area some years back. Perhaps it was only a trial. I'm glad I have kept the original take away menu, as some people don't believe me when I tell them. And yes I did have a go, and the food was ok from what I remember.

Any chance you can scan that in? I would be very interested to see it! Was it a limited menu?

Apart from the cost, the another reason I think that McDonalds shouldn't deliver is because the food doesn't hold very well. If someone sends a family member out to collect a big take away meal from McDonalds, they can expect - after a ten minute drive or so - greasy bags (fries), luke warm buns and meat, half melted flurrys, limp luke warm fries and so on. If you order in, the customer expects the food to be just right, and McDonalds can't easily attain that standard. Also, there is no immediate recourse for sorting the issue out. I think the biggest problem would be complainers (and McDonalds has plenty!). These are people who buy something and open it to look for something wrong. It's the first thing they do. When they find something wrong (Whether real or imagined) they'll march back up to the counter, throw it down and say something like "This burgers shit!" I've seen it. See impending post in GD in the "What do customers do that annoys you?" thread!

In short, I think it would be a logistical nightmare that is uneconomically viable, compared to that of a chinese, indian, pizza or kebab house.

Actually I should do, as it's now a historical document I haven't got a scanner myself, but I will get the job done!

Back in the 90's the McDonalds in Cannon Street used to deliver breakfasts to the few surrounding streets, but only if you spent more than 20 quid.

Now that would be feasible, particularly town centre stores where someone can walk it up.
