How should an HDMI Interface work?
Could someone please tell me if ideally a TV should be able to autodetect an HDMI connection or should you have to press AV to cycle through the various interfaces e.g. ext, ext2, cable, component etc to get to hdmi input.
I have a Samsung TV and sometimes I have to press the AV button 7 times to get to HDMI1 !! Is this normal? Patrick |

Yes, it's normal - on many sets you can disable the unused AV's so you don't have to step through so many.

There are lots of threads on DS, not just in this forum, and also on AVForums, about this. It depends on how your TV has implemented it. It could also be that your TV's Scart switching overrides your HDMI switching. e.g. If you have your HDR connected to your TV via Scart & HDMI, then when it boots, Scart switching may kick in and put you on that AV input. It appears that different TVs implement & deal with this differently. Also, some TV's are more configurable than others in turning on/off Scart/HDMI auto switching in their Options. Maybe if you do a Google Search on your TV Model + HDMI or Scart Switching, you may find some specific info or posts in forums to help you. Rgds. Les. |

Unlike scart HDMI does not have a built-in auto switching capability. It is solely dependant on a TVs capability of detecting video signals appearing on inputs, scart uses a voltage on a particular pin to do its switching.

Why does the HDR send a signal over the HDMI cable when it powers up 15 minutes before it's due to record? That's annoying.
If the box is in standby and we're watching Freeview on the telly when the PVR powers up to check the EPG it also sends a signal down the HDMI cable so whatever we're watching disappears for a few seconds while the box takes control of the TV, displays a blank screen on the PVR channel and then switches back to normal viewing. I find this annoying and hope it can be stopped in a future update, anyone else experience this behaviour? S |

That's well known on Panasonic TVs. I only ever specify Panasonic pro panels, or pioneer, to get around any such issues.

This has come up before. I still blame Humax for making the TV switch when it powers up to record.
The HDMI socket should be completely untouched by the box when it powers up, clearly that's not the case. |
