New build line activation
Craggles
09-04-2009
Hi all,

I'm shortly moving into a new build property and have a quick query, which has probably been covered but I cannot find an answer in search.

I want to get ADSL and therefore obviously a telephone line. Will BT be my only option as it will be a first time activation, or will I be able to get the line activated through another supplier who do a better Phone+ADSL deal?

Thanks

all CP's (comms providers) have the ability to order a line to be installed, however as we (openreach) charge more for an install than for a takeover(from one CP to another) they are reluctant to offer the service. the majority of installations that i do are usually BT ones, however we have had a spate of SKY + Post Office ones, as well as some of the LLU operators. www.samknows.com (exchange checker) will tell you which LLU operators have a presence at your exchange. which may help you in making your decision as they are usually the cheapest for combined line rental and b/band. But of course it's wether they are prepared to pay us the installation cost.

would also be best to check up on the reviews of the ISP's aswell, as your b/band speed would be more or less the same with each of them (as it's dependant on the copper in the ground) but the main difference is the customer service experiance.

the other option is cable, but afaik they have not put any new infrastructure in the ground for a long time, and as it is a new build you will probably be restricted to a "bt line".

and last but not least, mobile b/band may also be an option.
