Sony KDL40X3000 or KDL40W5500 ?
Which offers the best picture quality for SD and HD (Blu-ray) playback? I can get either for around £950.
Opinions? |

Opinions?[/QUO I have the X3000 and it is just an amazing tv. The PQ on sd and hd is just breathtaking and Bluray looks awesome on it. I am glad I went for it. I have the BDPS350 Bluray player which compliments the X3000 very well. My recomendation would be to go for the X3000 you will not be dissapointed. Regards

Regards ![]() Reasons : 1) I don't need the DLNA network stuff on my TV - I have a Playstation 3 for that, and from what I hear, the DLNA stuff on Sony sets is very limited anyway 2) The W5500 is an 8 bit panel, the X3000 is 10 bits, and more is better ![]() 3) Bleed through of the backlight on the W5500 is worse than on the X3000, I am told because Sony compromised the design in the W5500 to save power, but that no such compromises were made on the X3000 4) The picture quality of the X3000 on SD (576p) looks as good as HD on many cheaper LCD's I've seen, even Sony ones. The picture quality on 1080i/60 is fantastic, but the quality on 1080p/24 is just mind blowing - truly stunning jaw dropping images. 5) Finally, I compared them side by side, and the W5500, although also very very good, did not look as impressive to my eyes on 576p SD, and somehow the 1080p/24 playback didn't have the same WOW! quality (I know, I'm not making much sense!) as the X3000. Thanks for your advice guys

I have to say, having spoken with a very helpful and knowledgable member of staff at a Sony Centre, I am going to go for the X3000 unless someone tells me I'd be making a mistake ...
Don't get too carried away because you were told something by a 'Sony Centre', it may be perfectly true, but a 'Sony Centre' is nothing whatsoever to do with Sony, just an independent who has agreed to meet certain specific conditions in order for the right to use the 'Sony Centre' name. Same applies to 'Shop At Panasonic', just independents. |

Both are great sets, either should be fine.

I was just hoping to be able to put these two sets side by side for a comparison - which I did the advice, which seemed genuine enough, was a bonus. One other thing I didn't mention above - the sound quality on the X3000 seemed better - the stereo spatial separation was much clearer than on the W5500. X3000 it's going to be ! Thanks. |

Incidently, a Z series I took to pieces the other week had a sub-woofer inside it - wasn't that big, but it must help the sound somewhat. I don't know if the X does or not though. |
