Delivered vodafone phone had been opened

Not sure if i'm wording any of this correctly so please forgive me. Yesterday I took delivery of the Samsung Tocco Ultra. 600 Mn's + Unlimited texts at £25 a month. My door went just before 10. The Royal Mail van with my delivery. I signed for it no probs and took the phonr upstairs to open. To my horror when I opened the box....I noticed that that the box was in pretty poor condition (a bit crushed at the sides) and the seals on the box which say "Do not accept if seal is broken" the seals has clearly been cut (I'm looking at it now and can tell that it's been opened with scissors or something) Just curious as whether it should have been opened in the first place? and if it shouldn't should I phone vodafone and mention that fact? Had a few phones from them before and never had this problem.

for some reason whenever I have bought a samsung I have always found the seal to be broken, although the last o2 I got the white samsung had been broke but a blue o2 had been stuck over it.

The excuse I've had more often is that they check it has a UK charger.

Perhaps that's the reason......i'm gonna try and call and find out anyway. Box was pretty bashed at the sides too as I said in the first post which makes me wonder a little (not big bashes but very noticeable)

If you phone is ok and everything in the box was sealed, I wouldn't bother.
The person who picks up your call in the Call Centre will probably have no idea.

Life is too short to waste on phone calls to Call Centres

Phone's working and all that so I guess I shouldn't really waste my time and the phone itself was in all it's wrappings (I would be more concerned phone if I had no wrapping)

Was the phone direct from Vodafone or from a different supplier but on the vodafone network?

Sometimes the boxes are opened and the contents checked the original seal is then usually replaced with a vodafone seal. I know sometimes the boxes are open as sometimes they put the sim card in the handset ready for the customer or a memory card.

As everything is there and there is no damage to the box contents i would not worry about it just enjoy your new phone.

It looks like an excellent handset i might get one myself.

i've asked about this question before

is it safe to buy a 'brand new' phone in an unsealed box?

amt27 gave me the answer (see post #9)

if it's in all its original wrappings and obviously brand new (you can normally tell easily), it should be okay.... i can see why they would do it.

I've bought a few phones from Argos, and they always open it in front of you on the counter and inspect everything.

You can blame the bashed box on Royal Mail's poor handling though Why oh why do companies send boxes in a plastic box/envelope instead of a good strong box (like Amazon)?

When I ordered from the 02 store, they didn't break the seal though.

I would check that the IMEI numbers on the box matches that of the handset. It is possible that someone took out the brand new handset and replaced it with another (possibly used/faulty) handset.

Caused a little debate so it seems. I think the phone did come from vodafone direct. I guess if they have to check it then I should leave it be really. The state of the box at the sides was the most obvious cause for concern (and obviously when I had seen the box had been opened it did give me a little cause for concern) Never had it happen though on any other phones from vodafone or what not hence the obvious concerns. The IMEI matches the box (just checked) so I would safely assume it was purely only to check everything was OK.

It's a good phone BTW.

hey just thought i would let say not to worry. unless the handset has scratches or has obviously been used the condition you recieved the box in is not something to worry about. I work in a store and all the handsets we get into store are brand new (unless they are in a different box and have a different code to put through the system) and some of the boxes we get in have the seal broken in exactly the same manner as you described. these are brand new handsets as i said and come into a store so I wouldn't worry.

Lucy

p.s. very good phone choice might i add! One of the best phones Vodafone have at the moment without a doubt
