OK, bit of a confession here - I've never tried venison (always thought it would be a bit too deer ) - anyway, last night in Sainsburys I spotted some venison sausages so decided to give them a whirl;

Thing is, I didn't really think it through, and haven't thought what to do with them

I have potatoes, onions, swede, parsnips and carrots in the fridge, and could probably make it to a supermarket if they are open after 6 tonight - any suggestions?

They are very nice. I don't think you need do anything special to accompany them. I just had them as part of a mixed grill but would have been fine with mash and veg or maybe mashed root veg

How about bangers and mash, dice some of those root vegetables and when cooked chop or mash them and add butter and black pepper. I had some last week and they were very tasty.

I did wonder about doing a mixed roast veg with them, but maybe the mashed veg would go better. I'm quite looking forward to them.

Roast is probably healthier. I'm just any excuse for half ton of Lurpak in mash

Just be lazy like me. Cook them and just eat them with your fingers. If you have any left over you can leave them for a snack later on.
You'll get the full flavour of them. No masking the flavour apart from a little dip of ketchup or chutney etc.
If you want to go all out do some boiled spuds or wedges to nibble along with them.

Did them with roasted root veg in the end, and they were lovely, and sweeter than I expected; they had a taste that reminded me of the countryside back home in Scotland (one of those tastes that you just know you have smelt a number of times along the way) - anyway, really glad we tried them
