Yes absoloutley - i loved the character. Loved the fact that she could take charge and adapt to different situations so quickly.

There was not an episode of hers that went by without the doctor saying 'yea but Rose would do this' or pointing out in some way or the other that she's not good enough. I blame the writers if the laid off the Rose fascination maybe she would have been given a chance and been more likeable for the mass audiences.

TA about the christmas episode though it was definatley not up to expectations and POTD by any means was 100 times better than that.”

Maybe I was just being harsh on her (I certainly didn't mean to be), but both me and the other half felt it was a little dry. It made no difference - the youngest loved her! Like I say, I would be happy if she got the job full time. She had a better chance of getting our interest than Martha, and was on this evidence a stronger actress. I also like the aristo/thief angle. Could be fun.

I do think it's true that Martha was living in the shadow of Rose, and there's a reason for that. Simply put, Rose was a far more interesting character, and was played better by Billie. No question. Sorry, but Martha (the character) brought very little to Who for my money. I didn't dislike the lass, but wasn't sorry to see her go. She'd really outstayed the thing. But then also I feel the writers let her down with a pretty boring character and a naff plot about her being in love with the Doctor. It didn't work. So yeah to be fair she shouldn't shoulder all the blame.

Definitely not. I'm looking forward to seeing Lindsay Duncan. Catherine Tate is the only companion so far who could really act.

Is this Lindsay Duncan the one who has got the part then? What's she from, and more importantly, is she any good? I'd heard someone from Skins had got it...

EDIT: Sorry, being stupid. You meant THAT Lindsay Duncan.

I was reading a newspaper today and the person going on about Doctor Who was going on like Michelle Ryan was the new companion for the new series? so there is nothing official then?

“Her character was good, but her acting, totally pants. Lee Evans for companion anyone?”

How about Lee Evans as the Doctor!

Er.. maybe not.

I think people would accept Michelle Ryan as the new assistant. A lot of people slagged off Catherine Tate as Donna 'chav' Noble but changed their minds after seeing her in a few episodes. I'm sure the same would happen with Ryan. And Ryan's character has a bit of background - a rich jewel thief with dubious morality. That could be something for the scriptwriters to explore. How would a thief and a timelord get on? Would she change her ways to appease the Doctor or would she continue to steal? Stuff like that could be interesting to develop.

i hated the rose character and the donna character -like characters from eastenders - christina was great! more in the style of trditional dr companions and im a traditionalist where characters are concerned- she would be a fantastic longterm assistant its a shame about the aristo background.

Lee evans was ok at least no so over the top as usual

Potentially, she could be a great sidekick.

They'd have to tone it down a bit though - make her more human.

Her character on Saturday night was more like a cartoon character, or video game character, or something.

I don;t know i actually liked rose in series one but she became annoying and whiny in series two. Donna i hated in the christmas special but loved in the series four. I do think they should bring in someone from a more interesting background now though, we've had two people whose whole backround was based on not knowing what to or where their life was heading, it'd be interesting to see someone with an established career and having their life interupted by the doctors arrival. We did see that with Martha but still...

Why would SM want an RTD creation as his companion? That'd make little sense.

the character wasnt the problem, it was the irritating actress... shes just wrong for the show, Catherine was great, because she wasnt agnst ridden like rose, or dull like Martha, she wasnt in awe. but Lady christina was completely unbeliveable

For the life of me I could never see this difference between Series 1 Rose and Series 2 Rose that many say they see.

I thought she was terrible, some of the acting had me cringing, I don't remember her being that bad in Eastenders.

Glad or hope she wont be the new full time companion!

Agreed. She was a posher version of Ace. This episode was quite light and fluffy, but in a series they could explore her darker side. It's about time we had a companion who needed redemption.

And at least she actively wanted to come. Unlike Rose who turned it down the first time, as did Donna. (I can't remember whether Martha did.)

I'm baffled by all of these "Wooden / Terrible / Bad" acting comments when people comment on MR.

Now I'm not a actor - but I don't think Saturday's performance merits the comments shown here and on other threads.

By all means if this forum is typically visited by thespians and fellow actors then I concur. However, I hazard a guess that it ain't, and not to suggest that people can't spot bad acting when they see it - are people being far too critical??? It's like Freema all over again!

Remember, it can't be easy to convey a whole characters depth in 25+ minutes of screen time???? Tate didn't manage it in her Christmas Special - but look how she turned out???
