Help Needed With New LG 42LH7000 Please.

I have just taken delivery of my new LG 42LH7000 TV and I'm very, very pleased. There is one minor problem, however.

The option for SRS TruSurround XT is Off and greyed out. I am unable to turn it on.

Does anyone know how I can enable this feature and turn it on?

You might need to have a certain type of signal going in to the TV e.g. an AV signal on SCART or perhaps Optical. Check the manual.

I have checked the Simple (printed) Manual and the manual on disc. Nothing. I have also sent an email to LG Support who replied by telling me to ring their Customer Services on a premium rate number!

I forgot to say. I have the TV connected to a FoxSat HDR box via HDMI.

Dude - is there anyplace on the internet where you didn't ask this question?

Seriously though, why don't you make sure your audio mode is "Custom" ?

1) I can't find anywhere to turn audio mode to "Custom".

2) I have spent nearly £900 on a TV on which one feature does not work. LG are being unhelpful. So what if I have posted a request for help on more than one forum? It's not a crime! I'm looking for help to put right a problem.

P.S. I'm not a "Dude". I'm a person!

Julian, two observations...

1) How is the retailer helping you with this? Did you buy this from a full service retailers or the cheapest place you could find?

2) If LG are being arses about this then vote with your wallet. Tell the retailer that as far as you can tell the TV has a fault and you'd like a refund. You'd be amazed how quickly help magically appears once they're faced with the prospect of giving back the money.

Thank you for the suggestion. I bought it off the internet at the cheapest price I could find. I'll contact the seller now!

The annoying thing is I'm positive it's just a question of finding out how to enable the feature which could be fairly simple.

I actually bothered to do a bit of research to see if I could find an answer for you. Trying to help you, because I was feeling kind.

Looks like I wasted my time. You need a serious attitude adjustment if you expect random people like me to spend their time trying to help you out.

Sorry if I misunderstood you but it looked to me as though you were criticising me for trying to get help from more than one place!

I am sure that this should be simple to resolve but I have spent hours fiddling and got nowhere!

You're especially positive because it was working until you changed something and then it stopped working - as per your post on another forum ? What did you change?

I honestly can't remember! I was in the Menu under Audio and I changed things like Sound Mode, Treble/Bass and I'm almost sure I was able to turn SRRS On. But later it was Off and greyed out!

I'm tempted to do a Factory Reset and see if that enables SRS.

The smiley face at the end of the sentence should have given the game away that I was attempting humour, not criticising you.

In my experience, things like SRS get turned off and greyed out when they are not compatible with another setting within the TV. That other setting might be that you have selected a preset sound mode, or it could be as simple as you viewing material that is not stereo (unlikely, but possible). Hence my suggestion that you should look for some kind of custom sound mode.

I will carry on looking around for you, but please try to retrace your steps - as you wrote elsewhere, it was working to start with.

Thank you for helping. Apologies for being so short-tempered! I like things to work after I've paid out lots of cash for them, hence my bad mood.

I will try to retrace my steps.

First thing I would do would be to try each of the available sound modes, one at a time, and see if any of them either enable, or un-grey the SRS setting.

I would not attempt a factory reset. Lord knows what that might do .....

I've tried this and here's the result:

In Standard and Music modes SRS remains OFF.

In Cinema, Sport & Game mode it automatically changes to ON.

But, whether it's on or off, SRS stays greyed out and when you page up or down towards it the highlight just jumps over it!

Fixed it! Took your advice and went through all of the Audio settings.

It turns out that if you have Clear Voice II ON, SRS TruSurround XT will not work. So I turned OFF Clear Voice II and, hey presto, I got TruSurround back again.

Many thanks for your help.
