I thought we could do with a thread to share hints, tips and tricks about anything beauty/fashion related and to discuss anything to do with it

heres a few;
Wash your hair in cold water, as cold as you can take it. It makes your hair softer and shinier
If you've recentley dyed/bleached your hair and its in bad condition then after you've shampooed your hair pat it untill its just damp and put conditioner on. Wrap a towel around it and leave the conditioner on for a few hours - over night if poss, then wrinse off. After a few times it'll soon be back to normal

When blow drying your hair, when you're done, give it a quick once over blast of cold air ( Cold setting on your hairdryer) makes it softer & shinier

Ooh what a good idea for a thread. I don't have any tips at the moment but I will be popping in to have a look at the others every now and then.

If you have a bad spot...pop some toothpaste on it and leave it on overnight..the reddening will go down as it drys it up!

*If you want your nose to look thinner, put some dark shadow on the sides;
*Vaseline on your eyelashes overnight makes them thicker;
*Instead of shaking nail polish, roll it in between your hands;
*To freshen up your eyes take a flannel and soak with ice cold water and put on your eyes for a min or two.

Oh this one maybe a well known one but some people forget, never use an eyelash curler after putting on mascara. Ruins your lashes.

spraying hairspray over your tan is suposed to make it stay on for a night out especially as spilt drink can make it come off

For dark under eye circles - matte orange lipstick!* Orange cancels out blue. Dab it on the bluey, purpley areas, then pat it with your fingertips to blend it in. Apply concealer over the top - ideally a creamy one that you can put on your hand first and use your fingers, so as not to turn your actual concealer orange. I found this tip on Youtube and it REALLY helps!

*Barry M do one for under a fiver.

Pile cream is great for eye wrinkles.

Recommend rinsing hair in cold water.

Baby oil on skin just before you finish your shower. Although use different towels for drying hair and body.

A little talc rubbed on your hands and then run through your hair will make you hair look less greasy.

If I'm in a hurry, just washing the front bits of my hair and blasting with hairdryer makes it look fresher.

White eyeshadow in the corners of your eyes near your nose makes your eyes look bigger.

if you have greasy roots and no time to wash just put some blusher on them it soaks it up

use a small eyeshadow applicator dipped in water to remove wayward mascara

pin your fringe out of the way when you sleep to avoid it getting greasy [friends advice i dont do this myself incase the pin puts a kink in it]

palmers cocoa butter really does work for stretch marks!

I always thought pile cream was good for reducing eye bags and puffiness around the eyes... not sure if it's any good for wrinkles though??

Hello shakeyershammy,

When I use it for a week or so, I feel the skin around my eyes tighten up. It doesn't get rid of the wrinkles, more's the pity!

mix foundation with a little moisturiser makes it go on better and you dont need to use as much as even diluted it has same coverage, also buy different shades of same makeup foundation and you can mix for day or night to get right shade. Matte makeup makes more mature skin look older try and use a tint with shimmer, much more flattering same with eyeshadows , dont ever wear a lot or a powder eyeshadow as it clogs and makes the eyelids look older..

Put vaseline on your lips before you go to sleep to keep your lips soft.

I use tea tree oil on spots but also using Australian Body Care Tea Tree wash is great for using on your face and body and helps with spots, irratated skin, sun burn - an all rounder

Molton Brown Blissful Templetree body balm is a great aftersun and it sinks into the skin instantly.

Don't use body scrubs with oil in them while in the shower or bath as it turns your bath into an oil slick and makes it tricky to get out without slipping.

I recently bought the FCUK Polished Sugarscrub & FCUK Pure Shower Scrub & both are excellent.

A tip when using the Sugarscrub, use Exfoliation Gloves & you'll get soft, smooth skin.

Great tips everyone

Mine is, just before applying eyeshadow, apply a small amount of foundation to your eyelids. It stops your eyeshadow from fading and rubbing off.

Great idea!

Firstly though - NikNak you need to get some dry shampoo, they sell in boots for under £2, its just a dry spray (kind of like talcom powder meets deoderant) and you just spray on, rub in, and your hair is instantly less greasy, it's a miracle in a can! Look for Batiste

Okay so.... Vaseline anyone?
1) when dying your hair use Vaseline around your hairline and around your ears to stop it staining your skin
2) Also use Vaseline on eyes before applying heavy shadows (such as Barry M glitter) and it sticks much better, after the vaseline just *press* it on with your finger or a brush.
3) If you get dry lips, smother them in Vaseline, leave it for about 10 minutes and then gently scrub them with a damp flannel, works a treat!

Some non-Vaseline tips:
4) Put (just a little) bronzer between your boobs to create the effect of more cleavage
5) Always use a heat protective spray before straightening or curling hair, it makes SUCH a difference to your ends!
6) Hairspray fixes all sorts of things, someone above said itll fix your fake tan, a friend told me it will do your make up too! (but i haven't tried it)
7) Buy good quality make up brushes and if you wash them regularly (with shampoo) they will last a very long time
8) Brushes in general are so much better than sponges, or those silly eye applicators. Unless you want precision around your eyes or something you can get a brush for liquid foundation, eyeshadow, powder, the lot. And the results are SO much better!

Okay thats enough for now
I'm sure I will think of some more, but in the mean time, hail Vaseline!

Oh I forgot another Vaseline tip - put it around your nails if your not very good at painting them. If you go wrong you can just *wipe* it off

When applying mascara, comb your lashes before using the mascara.
