It's also seriously limited by not having three tuners, not having a bigger disk and not being able to run on AA batteries.
If these are killer features for you. I think we can safely say that an RF is a feature that many people wanted on the box. I would have liked not to have the modulator cluttering up the back of my TV.....the spaghetti junction is already bad enough! |

For me I did see this as a big loss when moving from Sky. I do have a separate Freesat box on my second TV but like others, I like to be able to watch my recordings on a second TV. To do this I've had to use another 2x plug sockets behind my main TV. On the plus side I can now control the DVD player in another room

I loop my DVD HDD recorder through my old VHS recorder but would have liked to have removed this messy solution with a freesat+ box, but it will have to do for now.

I think you are now making yourself look silly.
If any one of those is a feature that you feel you must have (e.g. a larger disk for someone who records a lot of HD and is away a lot) then the fact the box is missing that feature is makes it seriously limited for them. |

It's limited for people who want that feature, true.
For those of us who just wanted a Freesat HD PVR to drive one TV it's fine. It's also seriously limited by not having three tuners, not having a bigger disk and not being able to run on AA batteries. If these are killer features for you. But let's be realistic for a moment. It's far less limited than a box on which you cannot record or playback without paying £10 a month to some grasping Austrailian for the privilege of using your own property. ![]() Please can you now refrain from hijacking MY thread. If you wish to continue with the argument about what are essential features, then can you start a new thread. Please can one of the Moderators split off the hijacked part to another thread? Thanks you. So back on topic. Are there other alternatives? What do the Freesat SD receivers offer? Is the humax the only freesat PVR? What about freeview PVRs? |

Tern, I appreciate your comments, but I started this thread to work out the best way way around this lack of feature. Your point is made time and time again.
Please can you now refrain from hijacking MY thread. If you wish to continue with the argument about what are essential features, then can you start a new thread. Please can one of the Moderators split off the hijacked part to another thread? Thanks you. I had thought that I had finished with this thread but you have now opened the thing up again with an off topic go at another poster. I'd remind you that I only respond to other people's posts. If they didn't keep asserting that the box is 'seriously limited' there would be no need to keep explaining why that is not a fair assesment. Anyway, provided that everyone else stays on topic there is no reason why I will post to this thread again. Quote:

They do not offer RF out.Quote:

Yes, at the moment.Quote:

Some offer RF out.

Actually, it was really Nigel Goodwin who hijacked the thread by trying to use it to promote Sky (no surprises there) on the basis that the Humax was 'seriously limited'.

What complete rubbish as usual - I didn't "promote Sky" at all, I answered the original question in this thread - perhaps you should try reading what the first post actually was?.
It's nothing of the kind. For people who want RF out there is a limitation for them but hardly as much of a limitation as needing to pay £10 a month to use your own property as you do with Sky.

Some offer RF out. All freeview boxes have rfout, they don't all have internal modulators though. The Topfield 5800 and the Humax 9200 both have modulators.

And if RF (Modulated, thanks, Graham ) is necessary (and you are not prepared to add external equipment, then Freesat+ is not for you - unless you want to buy two boxes..End of. You have also been given other suggestions and there's really nothing to add so this thread is effectively finished anyway. |

Freesat really aren't making it easy to decide to switch from Sky+. If you've never ha sky, then you don't know what you're missing, but if you have then it isn't the best platform. Is there a contract as to who can make freesat boxes (SD and HD) or is is open to everyone. I'd like to be able to keep an eye on the manufacturers websites to see if/when any new models come out. |

For some people, no.If you happen to want something that you think Sky does better then perhaps Freesat is not for you. They must be doing something right though as the Humax boxes were flying off the shelves and the main problem with them was that people couldn't get hold of them. Quote:

I've had Sky and I agree that it's not the best platform. But that's only because I don't need any of the premium content. If I did then it would probably be the best platform unless I lived in a cabled area.Quote:

It was the case that only certain manufacturers were allowed to make boxes but that will change at some point. You could keep watch on all the manufacturer's websites but I can promise you that you are way more likely to hear about it by watching this forum and the 'Freesat' forum and it would be a lot less effort. |

Actually you won't.
Why do you always have to try to have the last word on everything. Most of us have had enough of your comments. |

Obviously you just don't get it do you. The way I read red6000's post is that he has heard enough of your views.
Why do you always have to try to have the last word on everything. Most of us have had enough of your comments. Does not the fact that every one of your other posts on this thread have been removed by the mods tell you anything? You might also note that several of my posts answer the OP's questions directly. |
