Unusual Lewis Failure
I'll report this, as I see no-one else appears to have had this problem.
Only 2 progs set up to record last night :- Cororonation St. ITV1 19:30-20:00 Lewis ITV HD 20:00-22:00 We were watching the recording of Corry in Chase Play about 20mins behind Live, the box would have been left on BBC1 or BBC2. At about 20:00 we got the schedule conflict box up with "Cancel Current Reservation ........etc." for a few milliseconds (well, less than half a second). Almost as soon as it flashed up, it was gone. I thought no more about it (mistake ), as I see this sometimes when we have multiple back to back recordings on different channels. It usually flashes off again, when the current recording overruning for a few seconds finishes, and effectively cancels the conflict that the box is asking you to resolve; the result is no conflict, and all recordings save OK.So, at the end of the evening, when I am deleting in the Media List, I notice there is nothing in the Lewis Folder, not even a "Failed Rec" at 0 minutes. I waited for this morning to see whether the overnight process had put anything in the folder (as we have seen before), but there is nothing. I know you cannot watch, or record, ITV HD & SD at the same time, so I can only surmise that Corry in SD overruning for a few seconds, whilst Lewis in HD starting, causes some sort of unresolveable conflict. Corry is not normally on a Sunday, so this scenario has not come up with our previous recordings of Lewis. I'm not convinced of this "explanation" as they are back to back on the same "EPG Channel", and AR should know when both are starting/finishing and handle the start/stop signals correctly. Also, in all the weeks we recorded and ChasePlayed Dancing on Ice (SD), back to back with Wild at Heart (HD) on ITV, we never had this conflict. Anyone else see this conflict? Anyone care to offer any other potential theories? Rgds. Les. |

If the problem is a clash between ITV (SD) and ITV HD because these cannot be recorded at the same time no matter what else is going on, I can suggest a workaround that might work in the future. Record ITV HD from 977 and ITV (SD) from 103. It might even work if you live in the London region as it should see 103 and 977 as seperate channels that just happen to point to the same video and audio streams.

Interesting theory, I guess I could try in the future, thanks. But, as I said, I'm not convinced it is just this, per se. The more I think about it (I've already mentioned DoI & WaH combination being OK throughout the series), I remember Fridays 20:30 Corry SD, followed by 21:00 Moving Wallpaper HD, being OK too throughout its series. If it was purely SD "overrunning" on ITV1, followed by HD on ITV HD, this would have surely manifested before now, given the propensity for it to happen. AR must have handled this OK previously. There's a remote possibility I inadvertently acknowledged the conflict message somehow at the time (I remember I was using the remote for something at the time the message appeared) but apart from that my circumstances seem the same as yours. I'm also ITV London.

Hmm.....
I'm wondering now if my HDR has fallen ill with the "ITV HD Red Button Bug", which may have explained why I missed Lewis. I tried to watch the Chelsea vs Liverpool game last night Live on ITV HD. I brought the box out of standby, and it rescanned for the 2 Freesat changes. I did not try to record the match, as I knew I would have a clash at 21:00 with recordings on BBC HD & BBC4. So I thought I would at least watch the first part in HD, then switch over to Freeview. I waited for the "Press Red to watch in HD" message and pressed Red. I got the "Loading ITV HD" screen, and the Dolby Digital icon at the top right. It then just went to a blank/black screen with the "Press Blue to return to main channel" in the top right. I left it for ages but nothing happened; it did react to pressing Blue, then Blue again to return to SD. I tried all the known tricks, changing away from the channel, and then back again, putting into standby & waiting for the blue light to change to red & then switching back again, switching off from the back & and the mains power & then back on again. The only thing I didn't try was the Default Reset, which has been known to cure it, according to other posters, I wanted to watch the match, and just continued in SD. I forgot I was on Freesat, and at 21:00 I got the clash message for BBC HD & BBC4 recordings, I cancelled the current channel ITV1, and it put me on BBC HD. I then switched to Freeview to watch the rest. I started looking for all sorts of explanations, as you do, and at one point I though that the HDR was so intelligent in its clash prevention that it knew I couldn't watch ITV HD at 21:00 with my 2 recordings, so wouldn't let me switch to ITV HD, then I knew I was well on the way to cloud-cuckoo land, lol ![]() ![]() ![]() There is no ITV HD to test with now, until Friday. I'll try on Friday, and if it won't let me "Red Button" to ITV HD, I'll have to go for the reset. On top of this, my team lost But it was a good game.Rgds. Les. |

![]() Resorted to the Factory Reset this morning, and checked just now on the football. Red Button now gives me ITV HD again. Don't know what caused this, unless it was the messing about with the channel changes. I'll also assume that it happened before I tried to record Lewis, so that is why it failed. Rgds. Les. |

Well, came in from the theatre last night, and True Lies was in HD (but no HD icon in the EPG to enable timed recording). Anyway, Red Button wasn't working after many attempts.

I reset my to factory before the footie and it now works. Hope I haven`t got to do it everytime.
Dave I suspect the recent channel "changes" upset my box for some reason, related to a specific set of circumstances that shall remain a bit of a mystery. Good luck with yours. Rgds. Les. |
