Alternative to Panasonic 37LZD85
angie2601
13-04-2009
can anyone provide me with an alternative to the Panasonic TX 37LZD85 since I can not find any for sale - most say discontinued? - presumably because of the newer models being released.

Looking for a Sony Bravia alternative or maybe a Panasonic Plasma since we will be watching TV more than gaming.

Maybe I should wait for the G15or X10.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Or would the Panasonic 32LZD 85 be just as good since we are about 8-12 ft viewing distance?
thanks

Sorry, have to disagree. My parents have got the 37LZD85 and it's a fantastic set.

I'd always go Panasonic over Sony - better quality, less expensive.

Best bet is to check out the reviews on WhatHifi.com or Homecinemachoice.com.

In terms of would a 32" work for you check out WhatHifi again - that's got an article about what size is best given your viewing distance which may help you.

Nope, they're running it on a regular SKY box connected through RGB SCART - not running it on HD yet.

And most people would consider cost a consideration - especially given the OP also mentioned a Panasonic plasma as an alternative, and alot of those are far cheaper than the Sony LCDs.

For many years Sony have been the priciest of the 'mainstream' brands (i.e. not the 'specialist' brands like B&O or Pioneer). Panasonic have consistently undercut Sony with products and have offered performance which is at least comparable.

With regard to the LZD85 check out this review from WhatHifi

http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Panasonic-TX-37LZD85/

They gave it 4/5 on the grounds the PX80 plasma was better. And at that time the LZD85 was £1100. It's far less than that now.

Their quote:
"Don't get us wrong: this is still a superb set, and certainly the best Full HD 37in you can buy. "
