Ocean of Noise - by E R Butler
Tigger-Roo
13-04-2009
Having just watched PoTD again, I just wondered if anyone had spotted this advert inside the bus.

It is not always visible but if you do get to freeze frame on it, it says:

Ocean the debut novel by E R Butler offers a window into a world that is as dark as it is enlightening. The book itself is called Ocean of Noise.

I suspect this is a big clue to the next special but wonder if it reaches further than that. There is no such book in real life, so this advertisement was made for reason.

Anybody got any thoughts on it?

Well spotted Tigger-Roo - I didn't notice that.

Check out the third picture down.

It is a song by Arcade Fire, as mentioned in the caption - a friend of mine is obsessed with that band! One of the members is called Win Butler. Maybe coincidental...

Oooh, good one !
I know from the spoilers for the Christmas episodes
Spoiler
that books are involved too. There was a picture posted of a book signing and the book's name was "A journal of impossible things", which is the name of John Smith's diary in Human Nature.

Could there be a book theme thing ?

hmmmm... back in Doomsday, the Void is referred to as "The Howling" as well as other things. Void = Ocean of Noise?

"as dark" may also remind of the darkness which Carmen announces in her prophecy.

Oh yes, forgot about Arcade Fire - if the lyrics reference an episode arc that's as dark as the song, we're in for a ride:

Lyrics to Ocean Of Noise :
Ocean of noise
I first heard your voice
Ring like a bell
As if I had a choice, oh well

Left in the morning
While you were fast asleep
To an ocean of violence
A world of empty streets

You've got your reasons
And me, I've got mine
But all the reasons I gave
Were just lies
To buy yourself some time

An ocean of noise
I first heard your voice
Now who here among us
Still believes in choice?
Not I

No way of knowing
What any men will do
An ocean of violence
Between me and you

You've got your reasons
And me, I've got mine
But all the reasons I gave
Were just lies
To buy myself some time

Ocean of Noise = An Ice Foe Soon.

The Ice Warriors are back in "The Waters of Mars".

Though maybe it means the Adipose are back with a "A Nice Foe Soon"
Hello.

Probably a big coincidence but that Arcade Fire song is off their album Neon Bible too. It says something about Neon on the poster on the side of the bus

That's interesting! ...and makes it sound less like a coincidence! I'm stumped as to what Arcade Fire could have to do with anything though! Maybe RTD is just a fan!
