CATHERINE TATE sweltered in the Easter heat yesterday – as the funnygirl actress filmed the Doctor Who Christmas special.

As Wales continued to bask in the April sunshine, Tate, 40, wrapped up in a winter coat in Swansea to run through scenes for the seasonal special.

The star, who plays Donna Noble in the hit BBC Wales series, was seen wearing a three-quarter length emerald green coat and carried a red, oversized bag as she filmed the one-off episode in a city suburb.

Fans gathered to watch as she and her co-stars acted out the scenes leading up to the Doctor’s Regeneration, which sees David Tennant, who plays the Time Lord, replaced by budding young actor Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor.


It will mark the end of the popular star’s reign on the show since 2005.

The keenly-anticipated episode is aired this December.

But in the meantime, many fans have been getting sneak previews by following the cast during filming in Wales.

Scots-born Tennant was seen in Cardiff on Sunday, along with the veteran actor Bernard Cribbins, who plays Donna’s grandad.

Fans said the pair appeared to be in a playful mood as they shared a joke over cups of tea, and later when Cribbins, 80, donned a pair of festive reindeer antlers.

Tate was also spotted on set as the trio filmed in the Cyncoed area of Cardiff

Not exactly a spoiler. Doesn't actually reveal anything we don't already know.

The fact that he regenerates to avoid death is hardly surprising since regeneration is the Timelord way of cheating death.

Surely the part in the spoiler tags just refers to the Doctor regenerating to avoid death? Which we already know.

I suppose you could consider it a spoiler in the same way that saying the sun will rise tomorrow is one. (There might be some people who don't want to know whether it will or not!)

Isn't that really just a badly worded fancy description of what happens in a regeneration?? As in, it's not Tennant taking on a new physical form, but the Doctor.
