Im very interested in buying this http://www.exceptional-av.co.uk/prod...FRWRZgody3LlSA and would like to know what leads to buy at the same time (not from same supplier)

It will be used in conjunction with toshiba regza lcd tv (2 no HDMI) and 60gb PS3. I think i need an optical lead. Im not sure if i need a second HDMI lead or coaxial digi lead. I know i could wait til i 'open the box' but im an impatient person and would like everything in place and ready to go

You will need 2x HDMI leads in all.

One for the PS3 to Onkyo, another from the Onkyo to the TV.

No need for an optical as the audio will be supplied via the HDMI from the PS3.

For HD audio (Bluray) you will need to select LPCM on the PS3.

Linear Pulse Code Modulation. It's a method of encoding analogue data digitally.

LCPM is selectable in the audio settings on the PS3, options will be LPCM or Bitstream over HDMI, this enables you to listen to the HD audio from Bluray - the PS3 can't carry the HD audio data via bitstream over HDMI.

I'm getting a bit confused over this sound issue
Someone has just told me when the ps3 is set to Lpcm and i should be picking up the DTS formats, not just when it's set to bitstream and LPCM is far better.
When i bought the hdmi's i was told they were 1.3, but they were a bit cheap.
Is it a cheap cable problem?

First off it's nothing to do with the cables.

Right, my understanding of PS3 and HD audio via LPCM/Bitstream.

If you have an amp that has no onboard decoding for HD audio but it accepts multichannel PCM via HDMI you have to have LPCM selected on the PS3 to be able to listen to True HD and DTS HD MA. With this setting you can still listen to DD5.1 and DTS from std DVD and Blurays that only have these soundtracks. You will not get True HD and DTS HD MA lighting up on the front panel of the amp via this setting.

If you have an amp with onboard decoding you set the PS3 to bitstream, this way the amp decodes the signal and True HD and DTS HD MA should light up on the front panel of the amp. You will still be able to listen to DD5.1 and DTS from std DVD and any Blurays that only have these soundtracks.

so as my amp does have True Hd decoding the bitstream is the correct setting
