RDR-HXD995 Dubbing size???
Hi All,
I have a RDR-HDX995 which in general I 'am really pleased with. The ease of use is great, even my non-techie father can use it no probs ![]() However, I have a number of titles which I wish to put from the HDD to DVD. I have gone through the steps in the manual, all about Dubbing, but am confused ![]() The recording on the HDD are in SP record mode. When I come to record them onto the DVD using High Speed Dubbing, the file size doubles, thus meaning I can't fit anything on to a disc as it's too big. The only way is to dub in 'real time' Whats the point of High Speed Dubbing, if nothing will fit on a DVD???? To get something that would fit you would have to record it in EP, SLP or SEP modes, and then High Speed Dubbing is not supported for these modes. So it still wouldn't work. That is unless I read the manual wrongly, and I'm doing something wrong. Any help on this would be most welcome. Everything else on this recorder I'am really pleased with, so this is a bit of a let down at the moment. I had a Lite-on HDD/DVD record before I got this Sony, and you just selected the titles you wanted and pressed HDD > DVD and it burnt the disc (about 30mins for a full disc, no problem). None of the modes/High dubbing, ratio stuff???? Anyway, sorry to rant, any help on this, like I say would be most welcome. |

The recording on the HDD are in SP record mode. In SP mode, it means you would get a maximum of 2hrs of video onto a normal single layer DVD ... Yes? |

I'm afraid, thats how it is with the Sony models.
Only recordings of 1 hour or less can be dubbed at high speed(for a standard dvd-r). For a dual-layer dvd,It is longer (2 hours,I think.) Anything longer can only be dubbed in real time. If you read Page 157,it gives you the various times for a 1 hour recording. |

Huh! I have made many 2 and 3 hour recordings in LP mode (which fits about 4hrs onto a DVD-R) copied to DVD at high speed. On my HXD870 though.
Having only ever dubbed in HQ,I've never succeeded in a high speed dub, which exceeded an hour on my HDX870. |

I stand corrected.
Having only ever dubbed in HQ,I've never succeeded in a high speed dub, which exceeded an hour on my HDX870. I'm using a Sony RDR-HXD790. I think the OP is having a problem in dubbing a recording from the HDD to a DVD-R because the recording on the HDD is more than the allocated 2 hours for the SP compression per DVD. In this case, dubbing in real time will need to be carried out in order to copy the recording from the HDD and onto a DVD-R. When dubbing in real time is performed then the recording is automatically re-compressed to a lower compresssion setting in order to allow it to fit onto one DVD-R. To avoid this problem, it's always best to record onto the HDD like you would if you were recording directly onto a DVD-R. This then avoids the need to dub in real time and re-compression. |
