I was reading this: The Apprentice: Season five, episode four in the Guardian & it uses 'Crystal Tipps' as a nickname for someone (Paula?), & in typical smug-**** opinionista fashion just assumes everyone will know who she means.

So, can the 'prentice experts here help me out?

Btw, seaweed does not smell like fish.

lol Crystal Tipps was a dozy-ish woman in a kids animated programme, the paper was probably making the comparison based on Paula's hair as the character had long thick curly hair too. Put the name in Google!

Thanks.

(I'm still at that smug article though.)

Crystal Tipps was not dozy....ish or otherwise and was not a woman either.

She was a little girl....who had a dog called Alistaire.

The reference was to the hair because Crystal Tipps has very bushy, red curly hair.

Looks more purple than red to me.

Knwe what you mean about incompetant and inconsiderate journo's and their editors, though.

They seem to feel it's perfectly acceptable to include long phrases in French/German/Italian/Latin with no translation so that anyone not familiar with the language loses part of the meaning of the article.

Actually, viewed from the front, Alistair looks remarkably like Ben.

I thought the Guardian blog was hilarious. Best stuff written about the Apprentice if you ask me. Plus, it wasn't too difficult to work out who Crystal Tipps was supposed to be. I'm not familiar with the cartoon either.

Snap! Equally I was lost on Crystal Tipps, but Google provided. The Organ Grinder blog is marvellous.

Since Christmas I have:

Spent two months substitute teaching in a secondary school
Started on a graduate traineeship at the grand old age of 28

I tell you, a class full of thirteen year olds can really make you feel your age. As can having a 24 year old line manager.

I could not feel any older than I do right now. I once took my youth for granted, I now feel like i'll be applying for my free bus pass any day now.

When the nickname is first mentioned the comments section is referred to... this is a live blog that takes shape as the programme airs and often takes into account the comments made during the programme. If the OP had bothered to read the comments then they wouldn't have a problem.

Typical Guardian bashing
