Don't you log on to your computer using separate identities?

Firmware should be here somewhere when updated _http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/support/downloadcenter_model.aspx?category_seq=65

Last one is showing at November 2008.

There's also the possibility that it might break something that currently works.

Still, they've had plenty of time to test it!

Tell him to get it sorted or you'll go out and buy a new toaster with a blue display

OMG ........my toaster blew up on Saturday night......how could you know that

As we speak, I have got 4 windows minimised, trying to decide which one to buy!! Never a truer thing said in jest certainly applies here huh

So, is there such a thing as a blue light toaster?.........NO, don't tell me.....he'll kill me....

Edit: I don't believe it, a blue light toaster!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/KitchenAid-A...pr_product_top

.....A pleasing blue light shows it is toasting and a beep at the end of the cycle to make you aware.

If I spend £110 on a toaster, is that grounds for divorce

Getting back on track and trying to help bampsam. I have had a play over the past few days with setting Power On and Power Off times (in the Menu settings, if I now have the right one?). Every one has worked. I've tried different channels to switch to and that works.

Whilst I accept the other issues you raised are things that can be fixed by a firmware upgrade, the power on/off is pretty basic operational stuff, and I haven't seen it appear in the various wish lists.

You have nothing to lose by getting the box exchanged (except any recordings you have not watched) - unless of course you have done any mods to the box. You should then get a new box from a later batch for which all the basics should all work. Then you only have to wait for the firmware upgrade to sort out the frills.

BTW why do you want the box to switch-on at a specific time when it's not going to do anything? It's not a feature I've used except to test it, and I can't think when and why I would - but it must be there for a reason.

You got there a bit too quick Mouse trouble meant I hit Submit when I meant to get preview. Full post followed about 1 minute later. (OK 8 minutes according to digitalspy).

Bad timing on my part.

I've dispatched many a post when intending to do a preview.

I think there's a scenario in which the Power On will not work, but it doesn't affect your argument that a firmware update won't fix things (probably).

I think it has been reported elsewhere that the box loses its time when the power is removed and needs to be switched on manually in order to receive the time off air. Such an event would result in Power On not working as expected. Whereas one can invisage means by which this problem could be solved (e.g. automatically booting to check the time if a power failure is detected) it is unlikely that this could be implemented by a normal software update as such a function must operate before the box is booted. It is possible that such basic hardware functions are coded in flash memory and could be updated, but whether or not that is the case is another matter.

Have decided to return Foxsat to Argos, hopefully for a full refund, if not then a new unit.

We have just discovered that if the power failure happens when the box is switched on (as opposed to standby) then the unit will come back on and pick up the time, therefore will also record your schedules.

So if you suffer from frequent power cuts, your best bet is not to use standby, then you won't suffer from missed recordings

But if you do this it won't do it's nocturnal housekeeping that can lead to other issues.

If the item is not fit for purpose you can demand a full refund as long as you have your receipt.

Argos accepted my Foxsat-HDR and issued a full refund-could purchase again when the faults are put right.

Sorry it had to come to this.

When they work (as mine seems to) they are excellent.

I hope they get it up to a standard where it will be useful for you (or someone brings out another reasonably priced PVR), soon.
