Bottled water.... scam or not?

Limescale (calcium carbonate) may be a drawback for your washing machine and your kettle but it is actually good for you. In fact, it is the main mineral in mineral water.

I am not a great fan of fluoride in tap water but some of the bottled waters contain quite a lot of it too, plus uranium and some other nasties, although I doubt any of them are at dangerous levels.

My only problem with tap water in hard water areas is the occasional burst of chlorine, which goes away if you let it stand for a bit anyway. I hate soft water and would be tempted to buy very cheap mineral water if I was in a soft water area. That said, the environmental cost is so high that I don't think I would do it.

Of course, there does need to be bottled water available in shops as an alternative to other soft drinks but the days of importing water from other countries in disposable plastic bottles must come to an end.
