My BT landline is playing up. When I try to dial out it skeeps coming up "The number you have called has not been recognised" Now I know I rang the right number as I called my Dad to double check.

Now if I try and dial the house phone from my mobile it states Calls Barred but my mobile is calling out to every other number.

I can call 17070 but on the ring back test it does not call back. Even calling 150 does not take me through to anyone. Just the message I got above.

Any ideas

151 is the number for reporting faults but, as you can't dial 150, that may not work.

The alternatives which may work (because they're freephone numbers) are 0800 800 151 and 0800 800 150.

First thing to do is make sure none of your equipment or wiring is causing the problem, if you have a NTE5 type master socket you can remove the bottom part to expose a test socket and test from there with a known working phone, ( borrow one from a friend/neighbour), if problem goes you will need to identify what bit of kit is causing the problem ( adsl filters ?)
If problem remains when trying from the test socket report your line as faulty to whoever you pay line rental to.
If BT are your provider you can test your line from BT.com
If you have a phone book in the first couple of pages is a guide on how to identify the master socket and eliminate problems on your
own kit, before reporting your line faulty as if an engineer is called out and discovers the problem on what you are responsible for you will get charged
for the call out
