No Seriously? I understand what people are saying about her and I hope she goes all the way. However, Every article I've read mainly from the US press hardly mentions the same thing occurred with Paul Potts TWO years ago. It was the same unlikely average person comes onto the stage with a great voice, but now it's all about Susan and how many Youtube hits she's getting and all of her American press!

Granted, I've seen Paul being interviewed a few times on Canadian tv, but did the US press never hear of Potts? I mean was it not just last year on America's got Talent where they had an American version of Paul Potts, who had exactly the same effect on Simon and co, that his predecessor had? (I don't know if he won or not). When AGT comes back next year, will they have an American version of Susan Boyle?

I like both Susan and Paul, but what is it that makes Susan bigger?

Paul Potts did Oprah and released his album in the US. It did OK, about 400,000 and got a gold certificate I think.

Susan is bigger because of the continued growth in the internet. Twitter has been very important.

I think a lot of these other people in the US who are reporting about her are just trying to get in on the act before everyone else if they can, in a sort of, 'you heard it here first', kind of thing, because they probably missed Paul Potts first time round.

Paul was all over our US media! In fact, there was kinda no escaping him! You couldn't flick on daytime without seeing him.

He was actually on The Today Show (NBC) , this morning speaking LIVE from Australia. Of course, Susan just happened to be on also!.
He'll be on there again in a few weeks singing from his new album.

In regards to finding a new Susan Boyle, CBS's Early show has already started searching!

The gender? the style of singing? The fact that they are not identical twins?

You can bank on it.

If he's the guy I'm thinking of, his name was Chas Haley (or something like that) and he came second.

The difference between Paul and Susan is that Susan has a shakiness in her voice, wheras Paul doesn't. As far as singing talent goes - none I think. I think they are both roughly the same talent wise.

I agree. I think that's kind of how it works.

And you can 100% guarantee that the judges will play out 'the feigned shock routine' where they act absolutely shocked to the core that a talent show actually had somebody with a bit of talent on it. What a shock What a miracle

What are the chances that a person with talent would appear on a talent show? It's surely the last place on earth you'd expect to find talent. What a coincience, what a weird quirk of fate. Stop the press, talented person has against all odds been found on a talent show.

Paul Potts never gave me goose bumps: Susan does.

I think he is just average: she is sensational.

Paul wasn't this good. I couldn't stand the git, shame that the amateur ears of the masses didn't feel the same way.

I don't know whether to laugh and applaud you or shake my head in weary resignation. I'm so disturbed by how big this story is becoming.

Why is this news? Because she can sing and isn't a Size 8 who looks like a model?! The worst thing is that people are only being so generous to her because she can sing. If she couldn't, she'd have been laughed off the stage.

Absolute rubbish. Paul Potts was great. I was listening to him on youtube the other day and thought he was great. Seeing as though you've just revealed that you couldn't stand him, I think I know now why you're making the ridiculous claim that he couldn't sing. If Paul Potts can't sing, then I can morph into anyone I choose. This has to be the most ridiculous thing I've seen typed on here.

I got more goosebumps from Paul Potts than I have from Susan Boyle..I dunno..Her voice is good but not amazing...The story here is that no one expected it, not that she's amazingly talented. Whereas with Paul Potts, I find his voice to be outstanding, and the climax of performance in his audition never ceases to give me chills.

.. partly because Syco have been re-using the average joe with amazing voice angle all over the world for years now .. and as you say, the growth of the internet has meant this one specifically has come (or been staged) at the right time to hit. Twitter certainly helped people find the Youtube vid they might not else have seen but i don't rate it as the main catalyst.

.. and as for people stating they feel "goosebumps", maybe the editors and producers have seen it so many times now they've just got better at the staging of it and editing the build up perfectly to get at the publics emotions .. or maybe i'm just too cynical.

I like many others were moved by the video but as I was rewatching it again, there was a thing that bothered me. My favourite of the whole clip was the first line - "I dreamed a dream of time gone by" which has an echo to it. The others acts didn't have this echo nor the judges. However, IMO, it had helped make her voice even more magical, thus, giving it more impact. Anyone in fact, sounds better singing with an echo.

I hope I'm not too cynical and I hope Susan gets the success she wants out of this but I am wary of how much manipulation the producers put in.

Can't stand either of them. They are both average singers who get attention because they don't fit into the usual mould.

When PP had his teeth fixed he lost his Unique Selling Point. Just another average overweight tenor. And Susan will be just as boring when the novelty wears off or someone even more challenged appears on the scene.

I agree ... I think Susan has the better voice ... the pure beauty and clarity of her voice has even impressed the original performer of the song in the 1985 West End production of Les Miserables - Broadway legend - American singer - Patti LuPone, who said on CBS that … I Dreamed A Dream is one of the most challenging and difficult songs from Les Miserables, and that she, herself, was in tears after viewing Susan’s stunning performance on YouTube … Patti said … it must have appeared even better seeing it on British television for the first time. LuPone's version of I Dreamed A Dream is widely considered the definitive version ... for Susan to have impressed her, is something special.

When I first heard Susan sing, I thought whao, but then I was thinking, okay, it might just be that particular song she's good at - not so. She also performed that cry me a river song years ago brilliantly as well. She also performed the hit song from Titanic great as well, but not as theatrical like as Celine though, but then again, I've not heard how Celine performs that song live. Susan does have a fantastic voice though, no doubt about it. There are those who are starting to say that they think Susan is an average singer, but, I personally think these types of posts are two things, a) completely laughable and b) complete load of rubbish.

I would say the complete opposite personally.

Personally, I agree with all the people saying she isn't as fantastic as the hype would suggest, however, I'm glad that she that she is getting all of this attention. She is obviously very talented and its good that it is being recognized.
