1080i downscaled on a 720p LCD?
1080p as I understand can only be displayed on monitors/tv's that have the 1920 x 1080 resolution, so I would assume the same would apply to 1080i ?
How is it TV's that only display a max 720p (progressive) can display 1080i? Are they actually downscaling the image to fit within the 720p or 1366 x 768 resolution? I just need some clarification on this, I am not looking to notice he difference between the two more so the technical aspects. Will a TV with a res of 1366 x 768 be guarranteed to display 1080i? This has probably been asked a million and one times maybe, I know the difference between 1080p and 1080i, just I wonder how 1080i fits on a 720p screen seeing as its resolution is the same as 1080p surely? |

All HD Ready sets must be able to process a 1080i signal, and yes, if the TV has only 768 lines then the picture will be downscaled to fit.
1080P also is a little more complicated than you think. If a TV is labelled "1080P", then it must have at least a 1920 x 1080 resolution, however some 768 line TVs nowadays can process and downscale a 1080p signal. You'd have to look in the spec. |

It doesn't guarantee that it will display 1080P though, for that it needs to say "Full HD 1080P". Quote:

Regardless of the set it will have a scaler, this will either scale up, or scale down, (or even leave it alone) as required to make the picture fit the actual screen resolution. |
