1080p as I understand can only be displayed on monitors/tv's that have the 1920 x 1080 resolution, so I would assume the same would apply to 1080i ?

How is it TV's that only display a max 720p (progressive) can display 1080i? Are they actually downscaling the image to fit within the 720p or 1366 x 768 resolution?

I just need some clarification on this, I am not looking to notice he difference between the two more so the technical aspects.

Will a TV with a res of 1366 x 768 be guarranteed to display 1080i?

This has probably been asked a million and one times maybe, I know the difference between 1080p and 1080i, just I wonder how 1080i fits on a 720p screen seeing as its resolution is the same as 1080p surely?

All HD Ready sets must be able to process a 1080i signal, and yes, if the TV has only 768 lines then the picture will be downscaled to fit.

1080P also is a little more complicated than you think.
If a TV is labelled "1080P", then it must have at least a 1920 x 1080 resolution, however some 768 line TVs nowadays can process and downscale a 1080p signal. You'd have to look in the spec.

The HD Ready logo guarantees that it will display both 1080i and 720P.

It doesn't guarantee that it will display 1080P though, for that it needs to say "Full HD 1080P".

1080i and 1080P are exactly the same resolution, so it makes no difference as far as resolution goes.

Regardless of the set it will have a scaler, this will either scale up, or scale down, (or even leave it alone) as required to make the picture fit the actual screen resolution.
