Golden Wonder went into administration in Jan 2006;

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4595678.stm

but the brand was saved (although they sold Wotsits to Walkers in 2002 and Wheat Crunchies and Nik-Naks to KP Foods in 2006) and they are still made by Tayto of Northern Ireland;

http://www.goldenwonder.com/index.asp

although it appears they are most widely available in Scotland;

"Golden Wonder are once again widely available in Scotland and I have been told they are available in Tesco supermarkets in the rest of the U.K."

I had some recently and they taste nothing like they used to - the cheese and onion is completely different

I find tesco own brand cheese and onion taste like the old golden wonder used to!

Tayto seemed to have disappeared around here, used to be in abundance

They sell Golden Wonder and Tayto in Home Bargains stores if you have one near you, quite a good choice of GW flavours too

IIRC a lot of the business Golden Wonder did was making the crisps for supermarkets.

Golden Wonder always used to be far better than Walkers for both Salt and Vinegar and Prawn Cocktail and they used proper colours too, blue is salt and vinegar and not cheese and onion.

A tragic story, they invented the whole idea of the flavoured crisp, surely Britain's greatest culinary achievement since the invention of fish and chips in the mid 19th century.

They sell large (50g I think) packets of Golden Wonder on Virgin trains. That's the only place I've found them in years.

It's a shame, as they used to be the king of crisps. Then they turned rubbish for some reason.

The interfering government forced them to change their recipe lowering salt and fat content.

They have also buggered up KP Peanuts.

I no longer eat either.

Ah so that's why. Gosh, I remember the days of G&W beating Walkers hands down on crisp front.

Are Pot Noodle still owned by Golden Wonder? They used to taste marvellous but since they've gone low-salt/low-something else, they taste rubbish too.

I love Home Bargains but we don't have them in London - whenever I visit family in the north I stock up on cheap multipacks of Seabrooks crisps which are my favourite these days.

Pleased to revive an old thread as I bought a multi-pack of six Golden Wonder crisps in Morrison's today. Just ate a cheese and onion pack-delicious. Better than Walkers! There are ready salted, cheese and onion and salt and vinegar in the pack.

It's Golden Wonder, not Gold & Wonder. Named after the variety of potato.

You can buy them online by the box load

Found the cheese and onion ones in tesco and nearly ate all 6 packets in one go. God they tasted good.

(and is it me or have walkers crisps suddenly started to taste awful this year?)

Tesco sell them.

I wouldn't say the new ones are anything special though, passable at best.

some of their different snack products starting from 15 pence, a pack of six golden wonder crisps is normally one pound here.
