Anyone a fan? I love it. My "short" drink of choice was always Southern Comfort until recently but now it's JD and Coke.

I like Burbon, but not fussy on the brand. If out i'll happily switch between JD and Jim Beam.
At home I just get the supermarket own brand as I mix it with cola.

I treated myself to Bulleit Bourbon for my birthday. That's a nice drink

I love it, tend to drink it straight without ice as that's how it should be. But will settle for it with Coke. Loved it in Vegas where I could get one while gambling for a $1 tip!

Sounds strange but I was once given a JD and Red Bull, sounds awful but worked really well, but straight is definatly the way to drink it!!

It used to be my drink of choice. Then I found there are far better bourbons around.

Foul I tell you, FOUL. Even with coke it's horrible, all whisky type is.

Heathens!!!!!!! Bourbon is awful.
You won't often hear me being so closed minded, but whisky should come from Scotland, imo.

JD straight up = yum

Technically JD is a Whiskey - Kentucky Whiskey, not a Bourbon.
Also, apart from the rumours that Whiskey/Whisky is Irish in origin, apparenty it was started off in Japan - Don't quote me on that though

For some obscure reason I have a hankering to try Jack Daniels. I'm not sure why but I keep seeing it and want to try it but am not willing to spend £18 for a bottle.

I am not overkeen on spirits (G+T is OK otherwise I use them for cooking) and cannot stand whisky.

To a whisky novice is JD the same as whisky and should I give up on this minor obsession?

Only drink whisky straight and definitely only Scottish single malt and aged in white oak.

I don't think so. I don't like Whiskey, or at least not the usual suspects - Bells, Grants, W&M, Glenfiddich etc.

IMO Whiskey and Bourbon are completely different but I guess it's down to personal taste.

I find most of the own brands the same (Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Makro) and they are all around £10/£11.

How much is Lidl's?

I'd say they are completely different. I have tried all sorts of whisky, from standard stuff like Bells to single malts like Glenfiddich, Talisker etc and I don't like any of them.

I love JD though and will happily drink it all night every night. You should be able to get a miniature of it in the off licence to try for a few quid.

I the states once I had a steak marinated in Jack Daniels with a few spices. I wanted to test it out at home but didn't want to waste a expensive steak so tried it with chicken and some mixed spice but it ended up tasting so bad i couldn't eat it. Anyone know how to do that properly ?

This is going to sound obvious but beef steak is completely different than chicken. You would never get the same effect with big flavours when swopping the two.

I'm sure there are several recipies online for bourbon marinated steak or you could try the Jack Daniels BBQ sauce.

true I didn't think of that. Maybe I will try it with some rump steak so I don't waste a good piece of meat. Looks like google will be my friend.

This was more a steak marinated in whiskey rather than the think sauce they do so don't really want to try the bottle, but thanks for the advice there.
