God save us, is this what it has come to?

Howard, the poor wee lamb must'nt be able to sleep at night .

Obviously this hideous witch should be burned at the stake for having an opinion that Howard & the BBC don't like.

Wind your necks in, FFS.

She has a right to her own opinions, which are part of her culture - if we criticise her about it, it is offensive to her, and borderline racist. Watch it.
Is it really part of her culture?

The choice to be homophobic is down the individual not the culture. I am also African and in my country of origin homosexuality is illegal, but it doesn't stop me from having gay friends.

I think we should leave race/ethnicity/country of origin out of this because they have got nothing to do with it.

i think it's people that think homophobia and other prejudices should be ignored and get annoyed when they aren't that need to wind their neck in.

Why should gay men like myself be kept away from children? Is there something wrong with us?

I'm quite offended that you find what Mona said so trivial.

I agree, it is offensive. I can't see how anyone cannot see that. Maybe if she had talked about keeping him away from 'whites' they might get the point...

What the hell?

I find it quite funny how many people are condeming her apparent homophobia whilst at the sametime coming accross a bit racist.

excuse me?? my point was that had she used a racist term that perhaps some people would not be so quick to excuse her. I didn't say anything racist at all myself.

Muttley was merely making the point that homophobia is no more acceptable than racism.

No form of prejudice should be tolerated.

And having read a lot of this user's posts in the past, I cannot stress enough that they are far from racist. They condemn all forms of bigotry.

I don't think gay men should be kept away from children

But she didn't say "Oh my gosh, a gay man! Keep him away from my son!". People are entitled to opinions aren't they? She doesn't seem to be saying "homosexuals are evil scum"...

Exactly, I'm actually quite offended by what DS said there, I presume they didn't read my post properly.

I don't care how Mona said it. The meaning behind what she said remains the same.

She is entitled to her opinions and I'm entitled to challenge them and be offended by them.

Please don't be offended by this, I'd just like to know that I actually know what I'm talking about, but, what is the meaning behind her comment?

What more is required to demonstrate that she is expressing the bigot's belief that an individual's worth can be encapsulated in an aspect of their identity which has no bearing on their personal value, indeed that they can relieve themselves of the need to show everyone the baseline respect which everyone should be accorded because they don't meet one of their selection criteria...Try running through her remark with some of the following substitutions "I wouldn't want my son to meet a disabled/asian/african/jewish/moslem/transexual" etc etc.

Personally, I wouldn't want my child associating with a gay man, either! Just my opinion, sorry!

But, i am however against, the numbers of people who see the word GAY and think paedo, in the next breath. This is wrong!

Why?

It's all very well having an opinion, but do you have a valid argument to back it up with?

If she had said something like "people won't want their child to meet gay people" then it might have been shrewd but tactless thinking on her part about potentially bigotted consumers, like Yasmina with the fitness poster. But the fact that she said "I wouldn't want my child to meet them" is odd.

Is she trying to suggest that being gay is some sort of disease that could be caught by her child? Is she trying to suggest that gay people shouldn't be let anywhere near children for some reason? That's why people on this thread are offended by it, because of what she may be implying by saying something like that.

I'm going to reserve full judgement until we actually see the episode, but even on paper it doesn't look good.

I don't find her comments offensive at all. It's seems someone somewhere is trying to make a news story out of nothing.

Sounds very offensive.

Remember that Mona was one of the ones aproving of Yasmina during the 'race controversy' a few weeks ago. She seems like quite a stupid woman.

I hope they air the argument in it's entirety so I can form my own opinions on what was said. Needless to say that what she said was deeply offensive and Howard had every right to be upset.

Why would anyone specifically request their child not associate with a gay man? It denotes that they believe gay men are a danger to children which I find ridiculous.

I think 'what the hell?' would be more applicable to a couple of your posts in this thread today, Sid. Think before you post.
