DVDR5500 - Help Required Please!
Hi! All
I went to our local Asda Living store yesturday and purchased the DVDR5500 which has built in Freeview, I will do my best to explain the problem as follows:. My original set-up before yesturday - I have an HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview to which I have connected a Sky+HD Box and I also had a Phillips DVD Recorder[Matchline]. After Yesturday/Saturday 18th April 2009 - I still have the HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview to which I also have connected the Sky+HD Box, added to that I now have the DVDR5500 connected which also has built-in Freeview. The Problem: - As soon as I turn the power on thus taking the DVDR5500 out of standby it cancels out some of the Freeview channels on the LCD TV and as for the annalogue channels, it makes these very grainy. Now I know that it is obviously clashing with the tuning of my other equipment so all I would like if possible is someone to advise me of the following:. I know of and have bought other equipment with which you can change the RF Frequency to avoid any clashes with existing equipment, so the question is - is it possible to do the same with this and if so how?. I have been to the Phillips website and have seen that there is some new software that can be downloaded, but seeing as it might not address the problem I am having and I might have to result in taking the product back to the shop. I do not want to make any changes to it. I look forward to advice. Thanks in advance. |

First off you need to be a bit more specific with makes and models:
DVDR5500 - Who makes it/which brand??? HD Ready LCD TV - make & model number??? Phillips DVD Recorder[Matchline] - Model number??? Right, until you come back in fill in the blanks it's only possible to offer some general advice...

new software for the Matchline recorder won't hurt, but I doubt it is the answer. The facility to retune the RF output is probably in the machine already, but because you didn't give a model it's impossible to advise further
Do you need RF looped through all these devices? Have a think about using a mains powered RF splitter to give each device a clean RF feed.
|

Hi! Chris
No Sorry for being confusing, the Phillips Matchline DVD Recorder is the item of equipment that I had connected to my system which worked alright with it. I made refference to it as I am trying to get the DVDR5500/05 working with my system. You might ask why not just stick to the set up I had before and the answer that I can give is that the 5500/05 has HD where as the other one does not. |

All the 5500 does is upscale its output. It doesn't receive or record at HD resolution.
I had a quick look at the manual for the 5500. There's no mention of changing the RF channel. I also looked for service codes or some way to access the service menu but there's no info in the usual places, nor for any of the Philips DVDRs. I'm going to stick with my first suggestion - Use a powered RF splitter and feed clean RF signals to all the sets. Use SCART between the any source and recorder for making archives. Use SCART or HDMI for connecting the recorders to the TV. Don't use the RF outputs from the recorders. Hope this helps Chris |
