The title of this thread goes to show that somebody, or a lot of somebodys, disagree with you....

Actually Ron, I think Alex is quite pretty... in a tomboy-ish girl-next-door kind of way.

MacattacK, I do understand that there are people out there who do like Alex Park's 'singing' - but I also understand that there are even more people out there who have bought her album simply because of the hype surrounding the show.

She did come across as a really nice girl, I couldn't fault her with that at all.

The reason I don't like her voice is because she cannot sing a whole song from start to finish and stay in time and in tune with it...I'm sorry but I really do believe that a professional singer needs those qualities.

Maybe when she gets to her second album, when she's had a lot of help from singing-coaches etc. and got much more time to prepare her album, then maybe we will all be in a better position to appreciate [or not as the case may prove to be] her works.

I do apologise however for my judgemental approach to her, she does have a raw talent.....somewhere, buried DEEP within.... [oops there i go again!]

Maybe she shouldn't have brought out the album so quickly. Will and Gareth both released their debut albums about 6 or 7 months after PI. David Sneddon had more of his own music to put in an album.

Will has sold nearly 700,000 copies of Friday's Child!

I've got to admit that I'm sceptical of any artist born from a reality show but I love her voice and the fact that it's not soulessly note-perfect is a plus as far as I'm concerned
I ended up watching Fame Academy all the way through: puerly based on catching her heat one night on TV....
Most of the singers I've heard on these kind of programs aren't my cup of tea, but Alex stood out for some reason... I don't know why, it's that random thing called personal taste I guess!

Well I am certainly not one of them, and I know alot of Alex fans that arn't. I have never bought an Album or even single from a reality contestant before, and I don't buy hype. I genuinelly find her different, new and an exciting artist, quite a few Alex fans like Ruby on here for example, hates reality shows, and only saw her by chance while flicking, and was hooked, so that was 1st impressions, without hearing any hype.

I liked Alex, but I had strong reservations about her staying power, and I think her vocal coaches need to address some of her ticks -- like the split vowels.

Having said that, a friend gave me her album for Christmas, and having just listened to it for the first time, I will admit to being favourably impressed -- and even surprised by the quality of her vocals on some of the tracks. The split vowels are not a constant, and many tracks are without them completely. Listening to her sing as opposed to watching her sing also makes a difference, especially as her soulful camera-gazing was becoming a bit tired.

There are only two songs on the CD that I don't like -- Imagine (which I've never liked, so no surprise there), and Maybe That's What it Takes which is the worst split-vowel offender.

Really impressed for a first listening, and now I'm actually looking forward to a second album, curious to see what she can do. She might not be a flash-in-the-pan after all. This album is much better than I thought it would be.

Well Stevey, I really do hope that she lives up tp your first impressions.

I may come across as someone with a huge problem with Alex, but I don't really. Her vocals [in my opinion] need alot of work.... especially for live performances.

However, she did work hard in the Acadamy, and as I previously stated, I do think that as a person she seemed really nice. She is extremely individual - and I must say that although the people I work with are more 'all round professional' - they have also had much longer in the music industry and know more about how it works and have exceptionally impeccable voices.

Maybe due to my work I am so used to expecting perfection that rawness just doesn't sit comfortably with me anymore.

I do hope that Alex does well, I'd like her to leave my current opinions in the dust. Plus I am pleased to have something different in the charts. It is a welcome change no matter how much I dislike the individualism of this particular performer at this time. I would like to see how diverse she can be with her next album, as she will have much longer to work on it and will be able to relax more.

Also, just as a last note: It's good that some of her fans are actually fans and not hype-followers....

Peace, Love, and Merry Christmas to All,

TaniaJaye.

Hey! I'm glad you were open minded and gave it a chance! to be very honest, I was unsure on Maybe Thats What it Takes, and I skip Imagine!

I think people buy this record, thinking shes got an edge and shes diffrnt, and trying to be "kwel" as her fanbase would spell it.

of course the fact its full of covers just goes to tell me that despite all her fussing and rubbish clothes, shes nothing diffrnt to the rest.

shes right to blame it on the fact shes a 19yrs old girl, cos shes acts like one.

It is completely unrealistic to expect the winner of this type of reality show to be given the luxury of waiting for six months to a year to produce a decent album with original material. The record bosses want to make a quick profit off the back of the show while the winner is still "hot," and this is the only way to do it.

It's not a complete waste of time: there are some good tracks in it, and as I said previously, it's a better effort than I expected. I'm enjoying listening to it.

The true test will come in a year or so when she's had time to put together enough original work for us to judge her talent and staying power. To judge her solely by this first album is missing the point.

um, last I checked Will Young waited more than a few months to bring out an album, which wasnt full of covers, and outside of what you would expect from a Pop Idol.

Six of the thirteen songs on Alex's album are original co-written songs, which isn't too bad, all things considered.

Granted, Will's first album wasn't released immediately and only contained four covers, but then Will is probably always going to be the exception to the rule.

Record bosses have seen all subsequent winners of reality shows sell fewer singles and albums than Will, and some have famously crashed and burned, so it's not surprising they they're rushing the production of first albums to ensure as much revenue as they can..

I hate to be picky but 7 songs are original and 6 are covers!

With 6 of the 7 originals with Alex as main songwriter.

What about Michelle McManus's album, 9 covers and only 3 new ones, and with no input from her at all

Thats what I call rush release and cash in!

ok I dont dobut for a 2nd that Michelles album is a cash in job, but who can blame them, it was obvious from the moment she won, she wasnt gonna last in the music industry.

She could make One True Voice could good.

maggie I dont think you can just declare Will the exception to the rule just becasue it suits your arguement.

If anything they should all learn from Will, and it will teach them, that doing a rush job 1st album, is a big mistake long term.

Same goes for the 2nd album, Gareths album was a flop, Will waited over a year between albums and hes doing better than ever.

The same can also be said of Hear Say, and quite possibly waiting is why Liberty X are still around, and HS arnt, as to Girls Aloud only time will tell.

I think you will find they probably say "kewl". "Kwel" is a tablet for seasickness!

By the way, I see that Ron Jeremy is up to his tricks again. I am glad I am not such a pessimist as he is - it must be very dreary going through life hating EVERYTHING!

if you dont like Alex, then it is hard to understand anyone who does like her, and its easy to say 'they have fallen for the hype'.

But in reality Alex is a singer that either moves you or doesnt. an emotional singer. Different people have different 'switches' as far as emotions are concerned. Some people will listen to Alex and feel absolutly nothing, others, like me, will listen to her and get immense joy. Its purly subjective and you can argue for ever and ever and still not agree. I mean, I LIKE the split vowel technique she uses, subjectivly I cant see why its annoying, but thats just my point of view. if someone finds it annoying then I cant make then not annoyed by it, any more than they can make me get annoyed by it.

I see some posts where people cannot accept others have different tastes. (from all sides.) in the end, no amount of argument will change anyones mind.(although having a discussion about her with someone who doesnt like her, is interesting, as long as it doesnt degenerate into insults).
I think Alex is great, the only thing that will change that for me, is if she does music I dont like, and so far this hasnt happened.
By the same token, I accept that some people dont like her, thats the way the world works. yes, its natural to rush in and defend your fav artist, and a good thing as well, but in the end you arent going to change anyones mind.
Alex will stand or fall on her fan base, and whever she can expand it but, subjectivly, I cant help loving her work, sorry, but I do.
