Spot on IMHO ! My main gripe is it could really do with some more processing grunt so that the remote control commands were more responsive when in the EPG. That ain't going to be fixed with software methinks!
The most annoying thing about my Blu Ray player at home is the length of time it takes to process everything when my friends PS3 just spins up Blu Ray like lightening. Would I really have not bought it because it cost £302 instead of £299 but was 10 times as fast at reading disks? |

Do as I did and put a 1TB drive in (dedicated PVR drive NOT a pc drive) and you won't regret it.

I have to agree. Given the ridiculous price of even some very powerful dual core processors now and the bulk buying power of a manufacturer such as Humax, there really is no excuse for manufacturers to be putting PII 300mhz processors and the like in electronic equipment when for a cost of £2 or £3 extra they be putting something like Athlon 64 X2 processors in the 3 GHZ + range.
It's extremely unlikely that the slow remote response has anything to do with processor power. A 200Mhz processor was more than adequate for most non photographic/video functions until about 6 years ago. The slow response (which, on my machine is limited to EPG navigation) seems to be to do with a rather clunky way of populating the EPG with the latest information. Quote:

There seem to be many things nowadays that take an absurd length of time to start up, Fifty years ago when you turned on a (transistor) radio it just started. Try doing that with a modern DAB unit.

Do you need to find a way of formating the 1TB drive in EXT3 before fitting it, or will the HDR's own "Format HDD" command do it for you if the drive is formatted to some other standard when you get it?

Mine keeps trying to record "Jeremy Kyle" in the week but instead of the programme in the series folder, there's broken files in the root list.
Whilst this is a good thing, my other half curses the loss of recording. |

For me:
1) The overall number of keypresses to achieve anything. My wife got used to our old Sagem box, as for all its flakiness, it was easy to delete and navigate. 2) Favourites. Doing anything out of the ordinary seems to knock the box out of its favourites settings, meaning it reverts to all channels (and BBC Alba for some reason). Would love it to just stay with my favourites so I don't have to keep setting the favourites 1 list. 3) Black screen on turn on when the box is recording. Turned of the copy protection setting, but this still happens. I know theres lots of disucssion on here about it, but thought it worth another mention. |

The most irritating thing is the box not having a problem serious enough to bang on about in the forums.
It is an excellent piece of kit. ![]() My only small gripe is the slow response sometimes when scrolling through the channel lists. |

The thing that makes me growl several times a day is the way the box needs two presses of a button to bring it out of the screen saver.

If the box is off (display is blank) switch the TV on first. Then power the box up and enjoy as usual. If the box is busy doing something (display shows the time) switch the box on (display switches to eg "BBC1 NE & C") then turn the telly on, then manually select HDMI1 Hope this is useful for some people with hdmi probs |

After a lot of consideration I have decided the bug I hate the most is: When I pause a live program the subtitles are always there on resumption - Very annoying as they wont go away.

I think the "feature" I hate the most is when pressing 'guide' when the hummy is not recording, it takes 20 seconds before the sound and transparency work to show the program you were watching before pressing the button.
This strangely is not a problem when the unit is recording a program! Am I alone with this annoyance?

I think youve changed something in your settings, Im pretty sure I saw this problem elsewhere and the problem was solved.
I don't use that feature much but the bug has been extremely annoying when I have. Any link to a fix? |

Pressing guide uses a tuner to download a new copy of the epg. (It appears that the current firmware can only use tuner 1 - probably to cater for those using only 1 cable). The picture reappears when the complete data is downloaded. If tuner 1 is recording then it can't be used to get a new epg so the buffered one is displayed. The buffered epg can be shown at any time by pressing schedule and then red

I don't want to have to press 2 buttons in sequence to get a quickly usable guide.
I can remember when we had to wait till Thursdays, walk down and fetch the latest edition of the Radio Times from the local newsagent, carry it home in the pouring rain, dry it out in front of a coal fire, and then read through the crinkled pages to find what - might - be on in the next seven days, and had to pay for the privilege, just to make our neighbours think we had bought a telly

The thing that annoys me the most (not sure whether it is a bug or not) is that when it goes into standby it takes just as long to restart as it does to wake up after switching the power off & on again. Surely standby implies that it's ready to spring into life immediately rather than having to re-boot?
Another annoying thing. I listen to Radio 4 a lot. It's on most of the time. If I don't change channel it will go into standby. Shouldn't it be able to tell that I am listening? Standby with a timeout that I could set to e.g. 6 or 8 hours would suit me.

That would explain why there is this absurd delay in displaying the EPG. Why can't it use the spare tuner & every so often tune to the right transponder & download a fresh EPG so that when I press 'Guide' it is instantly available for me to browse? Even once per hour would be sufficient.
