Subwoofer causing TV and FM reception problems...
I have spent the last couple of months trying to find out why I am experiencing TV reception problems and FM radio reception problems and it has found to be the subwoofer that is the culprit.
The TV/freeview/video is placed up one corner (yes - I still use video to record programmes on timer) and the hi-fi is placed under the window about 6ft away from the TV. The TV aerial socket is next to the hi-fi/ speakers and subwoofer so the cable will have to run past these devices. I disconnected the hi-fi to clean the windows the other day and switched it on without the subwoofer and to my surprise most of the hissy FM stations are booming over with some in RDS...so I plugged in the subwoofer to test this and the problem was as persistant as it was before. Also the picture on the TV had also greatly improved. I then tried moving the subwoofer completely away from the hi-fi and TV aerial cable by placing it behind a chair and the problem had returned. (I only used the subwoofer on the hi-fi - not the TV) The subwoofer was however using the same mains socket as the hi-fi. Thinking back...a while ago I used a JVC in-car seperate DAB unit in the boot with a subwoofer and I was forever having problems with it but I had no idea why...but putting the two similar cases together, it seems that subwoofers can have an effect. With reading a lot of posts on this forum concerning reception problems/ TV picture issues the problem could be the subwoofer. I am baffled as to why a subwoofer would cause constant interference? |

Some of these [click] on your signal cables may help. You usually find them already on VGA monitor signal cables (but they're sealed shut).
You should be able to get them at Maplins, or an online retailer. I think they're called ferrite interference suppressors. |
