is there any players that will play non uk SD dvds?,can the players be hacked?

A lot of blu rays are region free, check here for a pretty current list on which ones are

Just click on the region free blu rays icon in the left column. They will play on all blu ray players no hacks no chips just pop it in and play.

jim101X - if you re-read the Op's question - they are interested in playing back Standard Non UK/European Dvd discs on a UK blu-ray player

i.e Region 1 USA/Canadian 'normal' dvds., rather than the answer you have given about Region free blu-ray discs.

The answer is YES- however, as far as I am aware the firmware upgrades are generally done by the suppliers & I am not aware of any blu-ray players than can be hacked at home from the remote control by individuals to play back SD dvds from other regions.

Players with Multiregion playback for std DVD are pretty easy to get hold of, but as bvmjain pointed out these have already been modified and there are no known remote hacks at present.

A google search brings up a good list of retailers that can provide a multiregion player for std DVD's.

There are no branded Bluray players that can be hacked by their own remote for multregion dvd let alone Bluray.

There are some that can be hacked for DVD with the use of an additonal One4All remote.

Alldvdcodes are a con organisation that list every player that exists, they then charge you a fee and when they can't come up with the code you have to put in a dispute with Paypal to get your money back.

I was unable to find Bluray players listed on either of the other sites.

There are some obscure apparently illegal far eastern players out there that are unlicenced and ignore coding but I have not seen them available in the UK

For region free DVD play on a BD player, try Richer Sounds. Many of their BD players (eg Panny DMP BD35) are available as region free

I got the de regionalised Sony 350 from Richer sounds and it's fine with US DVDs. I believe not all Blu Rays are regionally coded however if they are, then multiregion magic (multiregionmagic.co.uk) up in Peterborough can supply a suitable Panasonic player. No HD DVDs were regionally coded but thet're getting harder to get these days.
