Ignore the Sky box. It certainly won't tune in any satellite channels. I can find a 7250H model on the Phillips website but not a 7250R. Is that a typo?

The 7250H has a digital terrestrial (Freeview if you prefer) tuner built in. If you have an aerial connected and it is pointing at a Freeview equiped transmitter then it should tune in the digital channels available on that platform. Assuming a decent clean digital signal.

If the on-line Quick Start guide I found matches your paper version and the model is indeed a H not a R then the diagram B1 on the extreme left showing the connections should be followed. If you are getting a Freeview signal via the aerial the implication is that it should auto-tune all the available channels.

Cumbrian,
If it has both analogue and digital tuners then do you need to switch from one to the other before you can tune in the digitals.

Also some basic trouble shooting...

has this problem only just occurred
what else has changed in the system
have you tried to do a system reset (see trouble shooting pages in your manual)
and if you want to record from the sky box your best bet is to connect it to the recorder with a scart lead

chrisjr and Chris thank you.Iam in Skipton N Yorks, there is no Freeview available in this area,it finds the digital channels via the Sky box.it han't downloaded the EPG Guide for a few weeks now.i have done a factory reset has per manual and went through the set up again, but it still won't find any digital channels.the recorder is a 7250H not R,Sorry.in the manual it is wired up has on page 20.(Connecting to a Cable Box or Satellite Reciever) i have also tried to find digital channels has on page 83 of the manual but still finds nothing.Maybe i would be better of getting a new one,but this one worked okay until e few weeks ago.

If there is no Freeview in your area then it won't find any digital channels. The fact that you have a Sky box won't change this one bit.

What it looks like you need to do is follow the instructions for setting up the GuidePlus feature. It is this that allows you to control the Sky box and record satellite channels. Presumably you use(d) the GLink device with the Sky box? If so then it is that which is telling the Sky box to select a particular channel. The DVD isn't itself tuning into that channel, because it can't.

The Digital tuner in the DVD only receives Freeview via the aerial. It has nothing to do with Sky. If as you say there are no Freeview signals to receive then there will be no digital channels to tune into. The fact that the aerial may go via the Sky box makes no difference whatsoever. The only signals on the RF1 or 2 outputs of the Sky box are whatever signals are on the RF IN socket plus a channel created by the Sky box that shows whatever channel it is tuned to. But there will be no digital channels from the satellite on that feed.

And changing the recorder for another one won't alter anything. Unless the alternative recorder has a satellite receiver and connection to the dish it won't tune in to any satellite channels either.

chrisjr, thanks for your exellent reply, yes i do use the GLink device.i have set up the Guide+ the bit i got stuck on was when it asked what make of Sky box i was usuing,i could not figure out how to find the list,so i just selected none, which is what it told me to do if i could not find my box in the list.I think part of the problem could be the Sky box.it says i have to leave that on standby to get the Guide+.but the Sky box keeps switching itself off.if it is off i assume i am not getting the Guide +.Thanks Again.Cumbrian
