She's actually gone up in my estimation since this series started.
She's proved herself strong and hard working, and despite whatever's been thrown at her, she's risen to the challenge without a murmur and just got on with it. I know I'd have run shrieking for the door by day two, so good on her! [And good on all the others for surviving this long, for that matter!] |

Why on earth would she be the "most hated woman in the UK" ?
Like most other "celebrities" who do these reality shows she's there to try and get enough positive exposure to rekindle a failing career. And to make some money, which it seems like she and Grant Bovey desperately need at the moment. Unfortunately for them, I don't think they're going to be the next "Richard and Judy". His request to Marco to "look after his wife" and her weeping and wailing, as if he was off to the front line, was cringeworthy. They may be a very close and loving couple, but I just don't think they have any kind of "likeability factor" that would endear them in any way to the British public. |

I liked her when she went on Big Brother, after wanting to hate her.
She seems ok, just trying her best to do the job. I have noticed the attention seeking things [that's what it look like] but if she was that on top of the papers and spin she would never have made that up? I will give her the benifit of the doubt. Bovey came across as a right KNOW IT ALL, but knows nothing. |

I had a pretty poor opinion of her before this series, but from what I've seen of her in this, she seems like an alright sort of person.
She gets on with what she's asked to do and she's not nasty to anyone else. If that's enough to make you the most hated woman in the country, then where does that leave Rose West and Maxine Carr? |

Well at least she's honest about it - they need the money - let's face it none of them would do it just for a challenge, they're all getting paid well enough only she has the guts to turn round and actually admit they need it.
I still don't see any reason to call her 'the most hated woman in the UK'. |

Eamonn Homes once called Anthea Princess tippytoes when they worked together on a morning TV programme and he clearly couldn't stand her.
I don't mind Anthea at all. She wears her heart on her sleeve and I quite like that about her. |

I think that award today would go to the girl on the sun's homepage. Nasty piece of work.

I think, ultimately, the response to Anthea is "meh!" The agencies to target hate at are the television companies who employed her at exorbitant salaries, throughout the nineties, for no real reason of mass appeal - they were foisting her onto us anyway via the lottery shows and 'Pet Rescue' etc.
She was one of the first big money presenters, way before Wossy and just before Evans I believe, commanding fees of millions of pounds purely on her "girl next door"-ishness. She was talented at reading an autocue, lifting her chin up, grinning and rousing dads from their slumber during her GMTV tenure, looking like Eamonn Holme's defence lawyer when sat next to him, but quashed all suspicions she was an intellectual of any kind when she opened her mouth. She is a relic of an age when TV "pressennahs" had never had it so good, but she is no great artist, actress or expert of any kind. It is this neutrality, her portrayed vaccuity that limits empathy for the woman. When she tears, tantrums and holds forth on 'Hell's Kitchen' we are left wondering "okay, interesting - but my mum could have effing done that for a hundredth of the fee!" Anthea, Carol Smillie and a whole host of other attractive thirty-to-forty something women maintained the same role as a kind of Doctor Who assistant throughout the blockbuster reality and game show boom of the nineties. They scowled, frowned, grinned, whispered asides and pointed, translating the Handy Andy or lottery rep at their side for a generation. They were there to be dummies' guides, setting feminism back a couple of decades with the implication that they, ultimately, were the dumb leading the dummies. This category of female presenter did themselves and their kind more harm than good, revelled in vaccuousness and made it a sassy talent. They gained pots of money as a result but cannot return to the well so easily to replenish their pots. As experts move into the middle of the frame, as exemplified in BBC's 'Coast' or with the likes of Ramsay and Kirsty Alsopp, pieces of human set dressing like Turner become obsolete. |

I like her. She hasn't murdered anyone, she doesn't bitch, she works hard and doesn't take over. From what Eamonn Holmes has said in the past, I expected a right madam, but Eamonn Holmes is not exactly Mr Likeable.

Is it really necessary for us to elevate a fellow human being to the status of 'most hated in the country' simply because some of us have found them irritating on a reality TV show?
As this programme is viewed by less than 5 million people, 'most hated in the country' will never be an accurate statement. |

Yes, and for all those people calling her a homewrecker, don't forget that Holmes left his wife and kids for Ruth Langsford.
I think with Granthea, it was how they seemed to revel in publicly humiliating their ex-other halves, who were clearly distressed by the break-ups. I seem to remember animosity over this at the time. I find Anthea mildly irritating and very smug at time, but prefer not to think about her for the majority of the time. |

Good grief. There seems to be a lot of disproportionate anger about. At the most, you could say she was a bit irritating.

Rather extreme to label her as 'most hated'.
Has she murdered someone? She's an irritating 'jolly hockey sticks' kind of woman and very competitive. Is that a crime? |

It is these people who know they are disliked by articles and how people refer to them, yet still put themselves into the forefront of TV.
They know they are reviled, yet do it time and time again. Paris Hilton, Jade Goody, Peaches far too many to name but here they come with every z list reality show. |

If Grant had been happy at home with his 1st wife he wouldn't be with Anthea now would he? takes 2 you know ![]() In my book that makes them as bad as each other. And as for her comment 'A standing willy ( ) has no conscience', I expect that was her mantra all through the affair.

It broke down because they were spending too much time apart; Holmes in England, his wife in Belfast. His wife was unwilling to move the family to England inevitably resulting in estrangement. Until then he was commuting to Belfast every weekend to be with his family and even after the split continued to commute to see his 3 sons. As I said I'm no fan, but he was definitely a family man. |

Grant was sh*gging Anth behind his first wife's back when his 3rd daughter was just a baby. He went back to his wife, but returned to Anth as he couldn't keep away.

Isn't that the point for a lot of the celebs who go on these shows??? To relaunch their career - especially if they win. She's doing nothing different to people like Alesha Dixon and Suzanne Shaw who both won reality TV shows when their career was pretty much at rock bottom and both have since revived their careers - what's so different about Anthea Turner having a go at doing the same and why shouldn't she if she thinks it'll help revive her career?
Also, IMO it wasn't that 'people' ie the general public didn't like her the first time round, plenty of people did and still do. And before you ask I've got no particular affinity for Anthea Turner it just seems that these boards have it in for her for some reason when she doesn't seem to have done all that much wrong in the series. |
