I think Niomi had a lucky escape last night because Marco didnt look impressed at her not joining in the work. Add to that she let her team down the day before and the eel too and her cards are marked I'm sure.

I think if Bruce didn't put himself up,then she would have been the one to go last night.

I know! I just don't understand her stance on the killing/eating thing. She hasn't got much between her ears - the cockles comment last night confirmed this.

The removal of their entrails didn't do much for the crayfish even if it didn't kill them - they all seemed to stop wriggling after that. Not surprising really - rather like someone pulling out our intestines in the morning and wishing us a nice day before throwing us on a bonfire in the evening!

I eat no fish and seafood, and very little meat - usually chicken. Kudos to most of the team for seeing through the crayfish task. I'm afraid like Niomi, I couldn't have done that, unless I was on a desert island and there was no other alternative for food. But then again, I wouldn't enter a cooking competition where this sort of activity would be expected from me.

Unlike Marco, I dont' feel the need to have a relationship with my Sunday roast before I put it in the oven, but I do have respect for his position on this.

Danielle showed some mettle here - clearly, she was uncomfortable with removing the entrails, but still got on with the task, and she volunteered to flambe the crayfish - good on her.

I completely agree with you on that.

I eat a very small amount of fish - not shellfish! - but no meat or chicken and there's no way I would have been able to do that task. But then, I know what Hell's Kitchen is about and I know that Marco's menus are very heavy on meat, fish etc. If I wasn't willing to do whatever he threw at me, then I wouldn't enter the competition. Good for Danielle for doing what she needed to do, no matter how much she disliked it.

thats wot im saying though jay you wouldnt enter a cooking show in the first place

she must have known this would happen and just to stand there and let her team down was out of order

If she isn't willing to do all the jobs in the kitchen she shouldn't be there as its not far on the rest of them

Pulling out the intestine is worse than killing them imo. THey were just left damaged for hours until they were killed by cooking. Recent research has shown that crabs feel pain, and I would expect that crayfish do too. I would not have done it, though I would cook things like prawns, as they die quickly.

I remember Richard Madley telling the story of how he went to a top restaurant and had crayfish. When they arived they were still waving their feelers about. He complained to the waiter, and was told that they were lightly cooked! I think I can promise never to eat crayfish

I was mildly amused when Marco announced that it was a 'painless death'. Good thing crayfish can't scream!

You make a very good point. Has Marco ever been a crayfish who had his intestines pulled out while he was still alive, had to endure an intestineless state for several more hours and then got himself flambeed alive ? Until then, I don't think he can speak as to whether or not it was painless for the crayfish!

Research seems to be proving that the cooks' "painless death" claim is b*llocks. (I've never believed it anyway).
