Does it p*ss anyone else off ? - it looks as if she's trying to sound posh (but fails).

Very off-putting.

She sounds exactly like Melinda Messenger.

She just sounds like she has a regional accent to me

I agree with the OP - it does sound to me as though she is trying to sound posh. Doesn't really bother me though.

I thought Philip said somethinhg about her coming from Sunderland, which only reinforces her "Heather Mills" credentials. Plastic woman!

Apparently Kate is from Stafford which is where I am from, we are often accused of having a 'posh' accent, especially those from surrounding areas like Cannock & Penkridge. That is why she sounds 'posh' but with a regional accent also, I really do not think she is altering the way she speaks.

You really don't like anything or anyone, do you, Dave.

I don't think I've seen you post a single positive thing.

Looking at 'Find more posts by Davemba' confirms that view.

Why so bitter?

She has a regional accent but i don't think it's fair to criticise her for this!

You sound like those stupid women on the Apprentice last night, who were going on about "positive feedback" when the job needed doing.

I have offered all kinds of advice on the lower-down fora - if you are just talking about TA, well, I have yet to see anything very inspiring this year and I really do hate these female HR rejects.

Do I get marked down then for telling it how I see it? Would you prefer false praise? Do we have to "be positive" about people putting up a very average performance? Hasn't the failure to point out the failings led the UK to aposition, where we are bankrupt with one of the the worst productivity levels in the OECD? Where we reward people for doing an average job?

Several of these "potential business leaders" would not get past one unit (of 9) of my MBA programme.

You should get back to your day job in HR.

Ooops, I seem to have touched a nerve.

I've been pretty negative about certain aspects of people's behaviour myself. I hope, though, that positive points I have made add some balance.

It's just that I've noticed that you are extremely negative about just about everything and everyone and there's no positivity to balance that out.

Was just curious but your response has given me some insight.

No, you have merely demonstrated why the country is going down the plughole - in praise of the mediocre.

And here vis a classic example:

I don’t think so at all. I like the way she talks.

I don’t know what your idea of “posh” is, but Kate is not at all posh in my opinion. She seems very normal.

It's not the accent. She has terrible diction. She over enunciates and as a result it sounds like she's torturing defenceless words into submission! Utterly horrible to listen to, especially so when she uses big words she doesn't know the meaning of. This girl needs several months of elocution lessons and whilst it may seem an old fashioned concept it would give her wider credibilty in business.

No it doesn't wind me up, she just sounds like she has a bit of a regional accent to me.

It's amazing how wound up people can get about an accent or a way a person talks, we are surrounded by people daily I can't imagine how annoyed some people must get.

Yes nice girl, very attractive and intelligent BUT the accent combined with some type of attempt to sound posh really grates on me. Mind you at least she can string a sentence together properly unlike Mona who is really struggling. Its quite sad to observe how Gen Y behave (most of the contestants). The 'I want it now' generation brought up on Big Brother and the Labour Spin culture....or presentation over substance as I like to call it.

I completely disagree.

If someone is prejudiced against certain accents then that’s entirely their problem. There’s no relationship between accent and intelligence, and if anyone in business snubs a person beacuse they have a regional accent then that only shows their ignorance and lack of professionalism.

And anyway, Kate’s accent isn’t even very course. I lived in Staffordshire for years and she is extremely well-spoken compared to some there. Granted, some people’s accents are so strong it’s hard for a wider audience to understand them, but Kate is simply not one of those people.

As for Kate having a “false” accent, that is ridiculous. She speaks with a perfectly normal Staffs accent and there’s a whole county full of people who speak like that.

Instead of all this silly bigotry over accents, I think people should mix more and get to know the different accents of different people in the UK. Everyone’s accent sounds weird to someone, even yours.
