I've had my HD tv for a few years but something I've never quite figured out... should I leave the dynamic contrast setting on or off? Sometimes I watch a DVD or Blu-Ray with it put 'on' and I think the picture image looks a bit brighter then sometimes I turn it 'off' and prefer the image a little flatter/duller.

Would anyone happen to know which setting is closer to the way a film is meant to look? Is dynamic contrast on closer to how films are meant to look like in the cinema?

The dynamic contrast setting is usually provided as a shortcut to help TV sales staff in showrooms make the picture as bright as possible, because the brightest picture sells the most TVs. It isn't usually recommended for use in the home, not least because it kills details in dark scenes. In the end what matters is what looks best to you.

Most of the "enhancement" features on TVs just mess the picture up. When I am calibrating TVs I turn most/all of this junk off. After the TV is calibrated it is extremely rare to need any of these features anyway.
