Ok it might not quite be summer but we are coming into salad season. I am trying to lose a few pounds for an upcoming wedding and worried about the amount of calories in the salad dressings.

Anyone got healthy low fat dressing recipes or alternatives to spice up the lettuce leaves?

lemon or lime juice, loads of black pepper, pinch of salt and a dash of mustard, it's better with a bit of olive oil, but if you want it fat free then leave it out

friend of mine was talked into buying vegan mayo, that was done with soya oil instead of eggs, and loads of chemicals so it would be thick, apparently it tasted like cardboard!

but there'll be a list of ingredients as long as your arm, most of them unpronouncable, surely a bit of lemon juice and olive oil is better

Olive Oil and balsamic vinegar. Cholesterol free and full of 'good' (HDL) fat. Simple, classic and fabulous.

That's what I do whenever I need to make a salad more appetising. I just mix in a little grainy mustard as well.

I add a bit of mustard, honey and sometimes tomato puree. Delicious.

A lot of people seem to get confused about the difference between 'healthy' food and 'low calorie' food.
Not the same, people !

I meant to post something along similar lines earlier. I think OP is more concerned about losing weight though, so I think this is about low calorie food.

Yes, I just thought to bring this up as I noticed a similar thread a couple of days ago.

I had salad today and made a dressing of honey, low salt soy sauce, chili paste and some water to thin it a bit, was super fine.

Salad was just 100g of chicken (with seasoning), lettice, red pepper carrot and onion. It was super fine and think I might have same tomo beats a sandwich.

I am trying to avoid bread now (wholemeal I always eat) to reduce my carb intake as I am trying to gt my body fat down to 10%, but still need to eat 3000 cals a day.

To be fair if OP was to eat 3000 calories a day she would probably put on weight not lose it, we are talking about an average woman here, so 2000 would be her limit and that is with losing no weight.

I cannot have my salad without both of these (plus a little lemon juice and black pepper!!) Delish!!

I guess i should clarify. Primary aim at the moment is to lose a few pounds (not excessive!!) so want to cut back the cals to do this along with exercise obviously! Would low fat yogurt based dressings be ok??

I will have to invest in a decent balsamic vinegar as this seems to be the preference but i think the one i currently have is just a cheap supermarket one and probable not up to the job. How much should i be spending on a decent quality one??

thanks all for your time

The salad I made was nothing but healthy, I just stipulated I am now on 3000 I feel what I made is perfectly acceptable for deficiate diet. I use to be on one when I lost 4st but now I eat 3000 calories to fuel my gym work outs (6 days a week).
