Exactly, and tbh, I'd put more trust in Marco's kitchens being clean than some random Wimpy!

Even if it is Marco 'hovering' over the food- I genuinely don't think a chef that is recognised as one of the greats would ruin food by being filthy and unhygienic!

Wimpy prices, you get Wimpy service.
For the prices that Marco charges the least he could do is have a shave !!

I, most certainly, may have eaten from a dirty kitchen. Most people will have at some point. But whenever I go into an eatery I take precautions. Does the place look clean? Do the staff look clean? Marco would throw up a red flag every time !!”

are you saying Marco's employees are dirty?
or the kitchen?

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this!

Anyway, Marco doesn't even cook anymore, aside from his HK stint. But I'll maintain a chef such as him wouldn't be careless with hygiene. And the bandana is there to stop the mad hair escaping into the food! You said it yourself- Heston's food scare, and he's bald and clean looking... looks can be deceiving!

And I actually think he'd shaved for yesterday's service!

Neither, I'm saying that MARCO looks scruffy, unkempt, unhygenic and that I wouldn't eat anything he had been anywhere near !!

Yes, I think we are. Just think that someone who takes pride in how food is presented etc.. should take some pride in how the person who is presenting that food is presented...if you get my drift LOL

Yep. Question..if he was a complete unknown in your hometown, would not the "look" put you off completely ??

See, the thing is, his 'look' is his trademark, and he's not going to change it if it's something that makes him mostly popular. Also, bear in mind that you are seeing him during service, and most, if not every chef, looks a bit unkempt after a night's service.

nooo i thinks he's lovely

god there's a lot worse than him in our village
you have to be desperate to visit the pizza take-away
the chinese is not much better
the indian is - not bad but a really slow service
the fish and chip restaurant is the best but you have to book in advance
and all the chefs look worse than marco!!!!!!!!

I must say, I applaud your loyalty. I honestly think he could have could have come up with a better "trademark"
Why does he need a "trademark"???
Gordon swears...but who else really has a "trademark"
"Scruffy" and "food" ...well somehow they don't quite fit in the same sentence... not much of a "trademark"

In a small town/village you usually know someone who works/has worked in a particular establishment and so can get the "gen" about it.

As to the "he's lovely bit" do I detect a penchant for "a bit of rough"

I used trademark for want of a better word, but if you haven't noticed most celebrity/tv chefs have a distinct look, style etc. Marco looks like that, he has curly hair, deal with it. Just because you think it's scruffy, doesn't mean it's dirty too. Hell, my hair and general presentation is pretty scruffy, but I'm by no means dirty, it's just the way I am.

And you're clearly a Gordon fan, what about his filthy freezer in his restaurant a few years back? That can't be true, he looks so immaculate!

And I'm not being 'loyal', I just find it a bit strange how you're disregarding MPW's credentials as a chef from your impressions of his appearance.

Not a Gordon fan at all .. just preferred him in HK.
You right, never judge a book by its cover.
That would apply to most situations in life...one exception...food.
As to his credentials (and not even I can fault them)well they were probably gained when, for want of better words, he was utterly scrumptious.
The "look" is for the tv deals and quite frankly I fail to see why they ever sanctioned it. He's not on tv alot, is he?

How about Atul Kochhar? He has a michelin star and is highly respected but, the negative I can see is that he isn't a big name in the mainstream media. If you want a "name" to take over from Marco then Raymond Blanc is a good suggestion or how about Delia Smith? Perhaps too nice but I think we have seen through her chairmanship of Norwich City that she does have character.

I don't think he could be mean enough.
There are alot of good chefs out there but no one who could be nasty enough for what is HELLS Kitchen !
Marco tries to be menacing but doesn't quite pull it off.
He's looking for more money imo and he'll probably get it cos they don't have anyone else who could fit the job description.

Gregor Fisher will do it and will probably be cheaper.

If they got Jamie Oliver to do it, it really would be Hells Kitchen for me...

They could bring in Rex from BB, would save them a few pennies, he'd do it for chips, just for the publicity
