I have a Sony Giga juke,
I can transfer my radio recordings onto a USB stick

I can play the USB recordings on my car radio which is fitted with both USB and SD ports ,but the recordings will not play on my Sharp XL-UH4H

Also recordings I make from my Robersts RD-1 on an SD card won't play on my Sharp XL-UH4H but will play on my car radio

Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong

thanks

Try making some recordings directly from the Sharp on to an SD card or USB stick. If they work then at least you can rule out a fault there. It would then point towards some problem with the file format, naming or perhaps the directory structure on the memory card.

...from the user manual...

Notes:

This unit only supports "MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3" format.
(Sampling Frequency is 32, 44.1, 48kHz)
"MPEG-2 Audio Layer-3", "MPEG-2.5 Audio Layer-3" and MP1, MP2 format are not supported.
Bitrate which is supported by MP3 is 32~320 kbps, WMA is 64~160 kbps.
For MP3/WMA files, please put ".MP3" ".WMA" extension. Files cannot be played back if there is no MP3/WMA extension.
Copyright protected WMA files cannot be played back.
If you are recording from DAB then it is entirely possible the files are in mp2 format as used by DAB. In that case it would appear that format is not supported on the Sharp.

Try plugging the USB stick into your PC and checking the format of the files.
